I called five places and none will chrome plastic. Bummer.
For metal chroming I was told..
Paint will have to be removed.If sandblasted, it will be matte. If sanded even with a fine sandpaper and you can see swirls on the bare metel before you chrome, you will see it after. So use a cloth buffer with the compound that they use to avoid the swirls. Any imperfections will show.
Chrome thickness will vary across a big flat surface like the side panel. It will be thinner in the middle and the first place to rust.
It's the nickel base that makes the chrome shinny. Chrome is dull.
You can do just the nickel plating and will be cheaper but nickel has a yellowish color though it could still pass for chrome to some people.
Estimate over the phone for nickel plating here in town: $100 but not more.
