I've been debating for days which cruncher to sacrifice and I just can't choose one for someone who has no idea about CPU speed. A Celeron 500 would suffice.

Well....it depends. Do you want old/used or new? If it were me I'd check the local swapshops and/or the local Mom & Pop computer stores for used. If you want new ......Walmart, BestBuy or Circuit City should have what you need. Prices start around $399 and go to $599 depending ....most would be a good starter PC. Tower, keyboard, mouse and monitor and depending ....may come with a printer. I'd start there...check online at the stores websites first. Hope this helps.

Or...if you want ....I have an HP Vectra VE (50 mhz processor) with Windows 95 on it .....you can have for free ....just pay shipping 😀 I'll even throw in a keyboard & mouse...Monitors up to you. 🙁

Hey BS! I have a PIII-500 that I need to get rid of. The video card works, but puts dark lines on screen. This was my stepfathers and I replaced it with one of my cruncher since it still cruches 24x7, but from a diff location.

You can have it, if it will help or you can give them one of yours with the understanding they still crunch for you.

I offer it since you are in SC and could be close enough to get it. I am not going to the trouble to ship it anywhere as it is a Gateway tower and weighs a good bit. So, if you are around Greenville/Spartenburg I am only two hours away.

If you are in Charleston then my last name might sound familar! 🙂 I just wish we were connected with that line. Our line was in Marion, SC, about 1750.

You are likely too far away unless you plan on coming to Atlanta any time soon.

Hey JW....got a Cousin that lives and works near Greenville/Marion area....well, the last time I checked he did.......small world. Haven't talked to him since I got out of the service in '87.....and no not 1887. :disgust:

Cool!! And to make it even smaller I am going to Somers, NY, next week on business...Not nearly as far north as you...but will be cold for me.

Just make sure you have good snow tires 😉 As far as cold....we have a tropical winter this year compared to most winters. 😀
