The title really says it all. I tried googling it, and I came up with a lot of 6-32 thumb screws, but none that would work for a cd-rom drive (I am only guessing they are 6-40 cuz they have tighter threads). I have also tried looking at all of the different computer hardware places online, but all they have are the regular (6-32) and lian-li (metric?).

Never seen them. You could probably drill them out if you wanted them badly enough but I personally see no need for them in a cdrom.

I've been looking for thumbscrews for cdroms and hard drive too. No luck though.
I would like to have them for a custom SFF case I want to build to make it easier to remove them to get access to other components.
I'll keep looking and let you know if I find any.

when I saw them cheap.
I just can,t remember where I got them, some
places charge as much as $0.99 each so shop around

Did some more searching. The cdrom and floppy screws are metric.
5mm X 0.5mm (thread pitch), length, 5mm and 4mm respectively.
Found one source for them so far, although the shortest they list is 6mm.

Maryland Metric

It might not be a good idea to use too long a screw, as it might contact something inside and cause a short. You could use washers on the screw, or grind the end of the screw to size. If you don't know how to grind a screw so the threads will start properly without cross threading (yes there is a right way to grind threads) you could just use a nut which fits the screw, thread it on the screw then grind the end to length. Then simply remove the nut and it will clean up the thread for you.
