cloudchief: not to put you down or anything, but the aspect30 will top the pcworks at highs and KILL it in mids. pcworks will have a slightly better bass since it has a little plastic box they call a 'subwoofer'.

I should have put IMHO into the text. The speakers you metioned I have never heard of, and when I went to the link you provided I couldn't find a link to any speakers and no offense, but that website looked kind of cheesey to me. For my home stereo I have A Mark Levinson/Bryston/B&W front end, and believe me I do know what good sound is. Still in my humble opinion the PCWorks can't be beat for $40.

i did own both setups (well not the PC works but FPS1000, pretty much same thing except 2 extra sats)
here is a link for the speakers: Click Here
as you see, these are of MDF wood or whatever they call it, of difference class from that cheap plastic cambridge uses. if you wanna know more about aspect30's goto search archives and look up for paulie for username 🙂

oh yeah, meci is kinda cheesy, i do admit that after ordering from them a few times. but they dont get you hoased on shipping and deliver stuff in a timely manner.

I followed your link and I must admit they look like nice speakers, and if you say they sound better than the PCWorks, I will believe you. How much were they at meci (they appear to be sold out there), and how much are they retail? Still stand by my recommendation that PCWorks for $40 are a good deal (although maybe not the best deal). If you live near a Cambridge Soundworks store no shipping just sales tax ($42 total where I live).

the listed price is $34, shipping not included. this is one thing i dont like about meci - they never tell you how much shipping would be when you checkout altho they dont rip you off on that. i would say somewhere mid 40's and to be delievered to your front porch? they used to have 10% off last weekend btw...

edit: a 3 piece set with a wooden sub will ring at $50. nothing fancy about the sub but its 5.25'' and 30W which isnt bad for 'multimedia spaker system' (them acs48's only have 40W RMS despite its muddy bass)

I purchased a pair of Altec Lansing ACS33's from Staples for $15 a while back. Great speakers for the money 😀 Beats the hell out of any of those cheap PC speakers. Just got to wait for MIR and use coupons. Visit the Hot Deals forum, speaker deals appear there from time to time.

excuse me? aura aspect30s kill acs54/56s and i know it from experinece cuz i owned em all. acs33? sheesh... go away 😛

well that deal on acs33 is pretty decent if you discount all the hassle/risk involved doin PM with the paper clip store. but no way in hell you gonna be callin either fps1000 or aspect30 el cheapo compared to that acs33 junk.

Well he did say INEXSPENSIVE. It wasn't really that hard to do.

$55 - $20 staples coupon - $20 Altec mail in rebate = $15

If you want to price match and go through all that crap then you might be able to pick up the ACS56's for cheap, which are definitely rated better. All I am saying is this is the best deal for this price and they aren't that bad, boom box quality. Way better than some cheapo no-name two speaker setup for $10 - $15 which Anand recommended for their budget system.

Aura's HQ is right down the street from me... the local Fry's procured a large amount of Aura 30's from them... they priced them at $60-70 intially, but cleared them out for $20 a few months later.

I have the Aura 20's and these are one hell of a clean set of speakers. I'd definately stick with the Aura's over the PC Works...

BTW... I also have the PC works, and they are nice, but they don't sound anywhere as good at the Aura set I have.

The PC works are the ones with 4 sats right?

this fry's was in Manhattan Beach, CA which is about 1-2 miles from the Aura HQ in El Segundo... dunno, fry's might still have a few.

Buy.com has a pair of Altec Lansing ACS66I speakers for $31.95 with free shipping. If you have a credit card you haven't used at Buy.com before, you can get a $10 off coupon from one of the deal sites and get it for $21.95

Egghead has been auctioning off the Aura Aspect 30's and the Aspect 40 subwoofer. They have been selling for $15, because no one has been buying them. Thanks to Brotherman hipping me to the fact these are a great speaker, I picked up four sets of the 30's and 40's for $40 a set shipped. This was a great deal on par with the Imation/Plextor 820 for $150. Unfortunately if everyone at Anand's goes to get these, they will no longer be $15 :frown:

does egghead still carry these? i am there! 😀
another set of speakers is the last thing i need but for that price, it is impossible to pass up... compuwiz1, i did own a dual acs48 setup and auras destroy them in terms of sound quality... sometimes you just gotta take the risk and plunge for the good stuff 🙂

Get the Altec Lansing ACS48's as per Compuwiz1. Picked up a set this week for my daughter. The house hasn't been the same since... and the price is right.

😀
