where can I get a tool to open it up?
links please?

Those are Torx fittings. Your local hardware store probably has Torx tools. Realize that the inside of a HDD has to be eleventy-billion times cleaner than clean, so simply opening it and letting normal dust-bearing air inside is the beginning of the end. Don't put any important data on the HDD if you've opened it up.

When hard drives fail, the head usually touches the platters. When that happens it scrapes off the dust that acts as the storage medium...back in the day when it happend with giant hard drives, the dust would fill a room.
