Hey. It looks as if these things are sold out EVERYWHERE, especially at every Best Buy in my state, where they were on sale for only $50.

Anyone know of a store where these are still in stock, at a reasonable price (close to $50 :) ). I'm also looking for one manufactured in 2000 - I heard from a friend the older ones were made bettter - but at this point I can't be picky :).

Thanks for any help in my quest.

Funcoland
Seriously, they have loads of them, every one of them I looked at was made before October 2000 (thats the month you want your DC to be made before if you want to um... make sure your system doesn't have any defects... yeah thats it... ;))
I picked up 3 of them, one for myself, one for my brother, and one for my cousins.

How much did you get them for at Funcoland? I don't think I have any around me anymore... I think they died out in my region :(. I'll check local yellow pages sites...

Any more ideas?

$50, new
They tried to sell me that damn CD cleaner too, but I said no
Fortunately since they stopped making the systems, I didn't have to sit through their "you NEED to buy an extended warranty" speeches

My conversation with the lovely workers at the only Funcoland in the area

Stoned Funcoland Worker: (inaudible)...colan...(inaudible mumbling)
Me: Uh, hi. Do you have any Dreamcast systems in stock?
SFW: Uh, no.
Me: Will you be getting any more soon?
SFW: How would I know?
Me: May I please speak to the manager?
SFW: No.
Me: Some help you are (click).

Oh well. Anywhere else?

Try ALL your local Target stores which had these on clearance for either $20 or $59.

There were two Hot Deals threads a few months ago about these insanely low prices.

Was at both of them yesterday... not one sega related gaming item in the entire store :(

Thanks for the info though. I saw the twogirlstrading.com thing... now if only they could guarantee me an old one I'd be in heaven :).

ROFL!
Wow thats almost exactly like the Funcoland around here... You wern't by any chance calling the Roanoke, VA Funcoland were you?;)
Actually, my experience with the entire chain (stores in MD, CA, VA, and FL) is usually the same anywhere. You can't call them, the guys are barely making minimum wage so they don't really care if you buy or not, they still get paid. You just need to go into the store and ask in person. Make them go into the back and check, cause their first response is to blow you off and go back to their game.

So I really need to drive it to tell to their face "look in the back to check for me?"

I figured that's how Funco would be lol...

Nah... not VA... I guess 300 miles off they're still the same.

Babbages has some used/new setups. Not sure if yours will still have them in stock, but it can't hurt to check them out.

Too bad there wasn't this much demand when the system was still "alive" :(

Funcoland was bought out by Gamestop in my area. In fact, if you go to funcoland.com it will forward you to gamestop.com, so I think they are in the process of converting all the stores. The store I bought mine had 8 DC systems, and only 2 when I came back the next day (week before Christmas). I garbled the second to last one up instantly. I also noticed the KB Toys in my mall had a couple left, as well as a few games, but they were selling like hotcakes before Christmas due to the sale. I mean, who wouldn't buy a console with a 128-bit cpu and 65million colors at $50 with tons of great, cheap games? The Target in my area had ZERO when I checked, and no games either. The Walmart had nothing. I would aim for the smaller Gamestop stores before I would try the big retailers, I think bigger stores sell out of their stock quicker because of higher customer volume. Oh yah Fry's had a few of these in Houston TX last time I checked, but they are probably gone now too :(

Oh yeah the Circuit City and CompUSA in my area had games still, but no consoles. Reason they hadn't sold any of their games yet is because they were still charge higher prices, didn't mark a single one down! Wanted $34.99 for games BB had for $14.99. Bah!

I encountered common things, minus finding any consoles :(

Every place had tons of overpriced games (except BB, it had good ones), but no consoles. I'll try to stop by Funco, or maybe talk to twogirlstrading.

Yeah man. I went through the same thing when I was lookin for a copy of Time Crisis 2. Called up before work and they "don't have any"
I decided to head over there around lunchtime and they've got 4 copies on the shelf. Not even 5 feet from where they answer the phone. And the box is very noticable, its like neon orange and 3 times the size of a regular PS2 game, cause they bundle the gun with it. When I asked the guy there how long they'd had them for, he said about a week.

Needless to say I was pissed. I wish I had remembered the first persons name.

I know someone who got one for free from Funcoland's dumpster. Maybe you should try your luck there.

Oh man, I hope they're not dumping all their dreamcast stuff. Maybe just the consoles because they take up space, but I hope they keep the games at least.

Wait a minute... you can still buy an original nintendo there... why would they be getting rid of the sega stuff? I'd think if they were trying to save space they'd get rid of the ancient stuff first.

OK, I'll do it, but only if you guys appear in court to defend me when I am arrested for trespassing, snooping, and being a weird person that sifts through retail stores' dumpsters.

:D
