Where can I find this fan?

I need to get a replacement fan for my phone server chassis. The fan is an 80mm DC brushless fan. Model Quietek SB0812M DV12V 0.14A

This fan looks a like a standard fan except it has a 2-pin male connector. I posted a picture so you can see the connector

http://picasaweb.google.com/ai...to#5164712357680211746

I found this exact fan model on ebay but it has the 2-pin famale connector.

My phone server is the 3Com NBX 100 system and the chassis fan connector can only accommodate this type of connector.

Can I get suggestions on where on the net I can find this type of fans? Or is there an adaptor I can use to change the standard 2-pin female connector into a male connector?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the AT forums.

DA beat me to it. I suggest cut and splice when confronted with a non-standard connector, but I'd use solder as well as twisting then the heat shrink tubing or electrical tape. Just get a fan of the same physical size and similar specs (or better if you want better cooling and you know the power supply for the fan can handle it) and do the do.

Thanks guys.

I did thought about just cut the connectors off and swap it by soldering and electrical tape it. But I figure I'd ask here to see if anyone has bought this type of fan somewhere. Never tried heat shrink before.

The 3Com NBX dealer wants (take a breath) $125 for this fan.

There are always crimp-on butt-splices like this:
http://www.electricalbasics.co...s_Nylon_Insulated.html
- if your soldering skills aren't so hot and you already have a crimp tool. But those aren't too great on small gauge wire.

They put those weird connectors on there so the buyers of the equipment will often go back to them for expensive replacements rather than bothering with (or even thinking of) the methods mentioned above.

What does the label side of the fan look like? Just out of curiosity, cause google me an image of the fan that says "Delta Electronics" on it but when I look around on Delta's site it has no fan that even remotely looks like it(eg. no rounded blades).

Possible fake fan google brought up:
http://www.fans.wrobots.com/SB0812M.php

If I go by that possible fake fan, the closest delta has is but is is a 24V fan:

He said the fan was a "Quietek" brand - where did Delta come from? (I found one that is probably the same at one of those scavengers that sell used OEM fans for ridiculous prices - wants $54 for a used (he calls refurb but probably just cleaned and lubed) 80mm fan) - right...

The picture is real. That is the exact fan in the picture. I have the same model number. I saw that picture from browsing goggle too. My problem is the connector. The connector on that fan from the picture is probably the 2-pin female. The season you don't see it on Delta's site is probably because they don't make them anymore since my system is over 6 years old.

On the label of the fan that was a possible fake (which is apparently real according to his latest post).

In which case, I thought if you could find the OEM fan model you he just buy that at a cheaper price and just cut and soldier the fan then just cover the soldered part with heatshrink.

Maybe... or they just never made them in the first place and 'Quietek' just slapped that on their to make them look reputable.

Edit again:

You sure your fan looks exactly like that? Or does it look more like the one at this site:
http://fanchango.com/goods/con...ig=1&middle=2&small=20

(Look at the labels carefully, their different)

That site above it Korean if you want to translate it into english.

Quietek OEM through Delta and any of them newer than about 3 years old will say Deltra right on them.

Did I actually read right that they want $125 for this fan??? HFS!!

BTW Delta has been making the petal(yes as in flower petal) blade fans for a couple decades now and the lack of sharp corners on the leading and trailing edge is supposed to cut down on any whistling noises created by the fans at high RPM. CFM is going to about 10% lower with static pressure cut nearly in half. IMHO they're ok for certain circumstances but, not worth the price premium delta charges for them.

Froogle came up with a place that is selling it for $4.00 but with a standard connector.
