Where can I find development work on the side?

Hey all,

I have a great job as a Sr. Software Developer for a major Healthcare Ins. provider. I have years of experience in the .NET platform and work mainly on creating complex, large scale ASP.NET applications.

We just bought a house, had a kid and my wife quit her job to stay home with our son. These are all great things, but it has created a need for me to bring in some extra income.

Does anyone know of a good way I can get side software development gigs? I have been looking, but I can't find anything useful.

Thanks!

If you work too many hours you'll burn out. It might be better to budget a bit and spend the time with your family instead.

e.g. make coffee in the morning instead of getting a latte, bring a can of soup to work instead of getting fast food. Do this 10 times a month and you're $75 ahead.

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately its not that simple. We have already cut out all of the non-essentials, but still have the need for the extra cash. There was some unexpected bills (I had knee surgery from a surfing accident; car repair; baby bills, etc.) so I have to put in the extra work for a little while.

I and others i know have used this: Guru.com. I have heard both good and bad can happen though (my one time personal experience was pretty neutral).

edit: also try craigslist.

if you know development you should know forums...join them and find jobs.

However; like above and also me assuming you are a true Sr. Soft. Dev. in salary.

I'd downsize my outside life and upsize my inside one.

I only have 3 cats and a wife, but my time with them is worth more than my salary.
