Where can I find cheap CD Writers?

Can I get a 52x writer for under 35 anywhere online? Also, what brands should I avoid? How is the brand 'NG'? What are good brands?

But seriously, your Sunday paper should also have the same deals as in Hot Deals -- prices from free to $20. If you hate rebates, go to www.newegg.com and check out the CD/DVD burners category.

I personally prefer LiteOn's. They are high quality, inexpensive units that get good reviews. Newegg currently has a Lite On 52x24x52 Black CDRW Model LTR-52246 for $40. That is about the cheapest you will find a Lite-On CD-RW drive. That being said, I didn't have much money to spend at the end of last year (I was and still am unemployed) and I was looking for another CD-RW drive. On Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) I purchased an IOMagic CD-RW drive (actually manufactured by a company called Optorite) for $20 after rebate(I did receive the rebate.) That drive has always worked fine for me and I have burned over 100 CDs with it. If you live in the U.S. I suggest you find out what day of the week the Circuit City, Office Depot and Staples adds come out. Search those adds online and look for a "good deal" (usually after rebate.) Right now CircuitCity has an IOMagic 52x24x52 (mine was a 48x16x48 from Circuit City) for $25 after rebate, see: http://www.circuitcity.com/store_specials.jsp?c=1&b=g&department=Peripherals+and+Accessories&page=1
 
I doubt you'll be able to get a *new* 52x CD writer for less than $40, but you may get lucky at the For Sale/For Trade forums. However, I believe there is a deal running on Buslink CD-RW that cost only about 20+ after rebates. Sometimes you may get a rebadged Lite-on CD-RW out of it, but YMMV.

Do you even *need* 52x? I don't see many media that supports up to that speed. Even if it does, I don't think it warrants the extra $$$ over the few seconds of improvement you gain. A used 48x would run for about $35 though.

My friend bought a new computer and sold me his almost brand new Samsung 32X10X40 CD-RW with 8MB Cache for $30. This was about 8 months ago. go used!
 
yeah get a Lite-on cheaper version of plextor, i have a lite-on has yet to crap out on me. newegg.com has deals on them all the time, just keep on checking back and you will get a deal, prob even right now
