Adobe offers a free trial of their PDF Writer service or something similar to PDF Writer. I think you can do up to 5 PDFs for free. Basically, you send them a document you want to have PDFed and they email you a link to download the PDF they made for you. I used it once a while back when I needed to make a PDF for my boss.

Ghostscript and Redmon can be setup to act like a virtual printer to pdfs from anything. And it's free. But it's not stupid easy to setup.

Here is an adware PDF writer. I have used it quite a bit. It works fine, though I did have some trouble with some special charaters (couldn't get to do an x dot.
