Where can I check on a certain laptop brand?

Anyone know of a site that reviews and recommends laptops, something with a lot of different reviews (preferably user reviews) on it?

I'm looking into buying something from powernotebooks.com but have never heard of Sager laptops specifically this machine:

It's an amazing deal for the price, maybe too good. That's why I would like some user reviews etc.

Thanks.

As I recall, Sager = Dell. If I remember right, Sager builds the notebooks and Dell re-badges the ones it buys from Sager.

How much is your laptop budget?
What sort of specs are you looking for
(screen, CPU, RAM, hard drive, graphics, CD/CD-RW/DVD, modem, ethernet, which OS, etc.)?

I would recommend waiting for another hot deal on a Dell Inspiron 4100 or buy an IBM ThinkPad A or T series starting as low as $659.

Here's where most people get their laptop reviews from:
UseNet NewsGroups (do some creative searches using Sager, the PowerNotebooks.com URL and the model number).
CNET.com
ePinions.com

and of course our favorite search engine Google.com

You get what you pay for.

If that's the case then that deal is amazing. I've asked them and they can ship it to me no probs (I'm not currently in the US). I could sell my current (650mhz celeron) for that same amount and get a free upgrade. Anyone else know if that Dell- Sager thing is true?

Well I currently have a 650mhz celeron Toshiba satellite and I'm very por-Toshiba cause this machine has been a dream to own and use. Rarely caused me problems, I've used it for making money (web pages) and keeping in contact (email) and movies (DVD). It's been an ideal machine. But, I've maxxed out the RAM at 192 and it struggles with Photoshop, Image Ready and Dreamweaver open at once. So ideally I'm looking for something like:

P3/4 1ghz+
14" screen (1024*768)
Minimum 256 RAM
DVD

I never use the battery so whether it has one or not isn't important. Weight is kind of important, but not critical.

<< You left out one small tidbit of info, what's your budget? >>

Sorry. Absolute max to spend is $1500, more likely to spend circa $1000

Id like to know too, im in the EXACT budget and looking at the EXACT same specs... 🙂

I would also consider Dell's refurbs at delloutlet.com

Before considering buying a Sager laptop I strongly recommend searching the General Hardware forum here and reading these posts. I think I've only met 1 happy Sager customer out of 20.

You could buy another decent Toshiba laptop for around $1,300 after MIR from BestBuy or CompUSA or Circuit City.

Though I was quite fond of Sager (because of their prices) after seeing one in action, I'm not as impressed. I know someone who has a Sager K6-2 450 and it has had quite a few problems. The battery life is horrid (1:45 with a new Li-Ion battery (it normally comes with a NIMH)). The CD-ROM died (though I think the user was at fault in that case). Now it won't work at all on battery. The battery does not even charge most of the time, and even if it does it will not run for more than a minute even though the battery is fully charged.

I do too and if not for anything else, for the warranty coverage and service that Dell provides. The link provided says there's a one year parts & labor & telephone support, but I'm wondering who'd you be calling to get that and how responsive they'll be. At least with Dell, their support lines have been documented to be very good and the response times impressive as well.

Dell's notebooks have been OEMed from a variety of places since introducing them, but Sager is/was one of them.

sager != dell

dell laptops are usually made by quanta and compal and it VARIES from model to model

sagers are made by clevo and i dunno who else clevo is a manufacturer for.
