I took the 30 minute drive to best buy, they didn't have it. I drove to Circuit City, they didn't have it.

Went to Newegg
Went to Amazon
Went to Shopzilla
Went to Buy.com
Went to eBay

NONE had it.

eBay only had one system but it didn't have a buy it now, and I would much rather buy from a trusted retailer.

Anyone know where I can buy this system? If possible, good price?

Thanks.

Edit: Okay, they are discontinued. I need some Klipsch 5.1 surround... do they still make them??

I've got a set, and love them. Why not look for some high-end logitechs?

Well, does Klipsch have a 5.1 surround sound system anymore? I just went to best buy, talked to their manager, and he's a professional DJ as well.. and told me to go for a Klipsch 5.1 surround sound.. and I'd have to agree, listening to the 2.1, I need the 5.1.

I had the Logitech z5300 5.1 surround and hated the bass on the system, and the fact that the controls to adjust each speaker were hoffific. I need some top quality surround and after listening to many systems, Klipsch is my brand.

For computer speakers? Not anymore.

Well.... What do you recommend then... I wanted Klipsch... But now I have to settle for worse.. I don't want to purchase another sound card for a home surround system to fit my card.

How about you give the Z-5500s a listen?. It's a much fairer comparison; Z-5500 $300, PMU5.1 $300, Z-5300 $130.

Z-5500 > ProMedia 5.1; they were plagued with amp issues (randomly blowing out or blowing fuses) and the Z-5500s sound better to me.

Granted, they're just as hard as or even harder to find than the ProMedia Ultras. Good luck :p

Worse is subjective. The top of the line Logitechs have been the Klipsch's rival for a long, long time. Depending on who you ask, they're slightly worse, just as good, or better than the Klipsch.

What exactly would I do to extend the wires if I bought the Z-5500? Is it easy or difficult? This is why the Z-5450 appealed to me.

What do you mean extend the wires?

If you need longer wire runs, either buy a roll of speaker wire and run completely new runs, or use some electrical tape/wire nuts to to connect a new run of wire to the pre-existing line.

It's the same thing you would've had to do with the Klipsch.

Well, say that the area from my PC to the wall behind me is 8 feet short (Because I would have the wire travel up my wall across the ceiling to its destination). What would I buy to make sure that the 5500's have enough length? What would I have to buy to extend the length of those wires?

Good sound is very easy to find. Good sound at dirt cheap prices on the otherhand...

It's just regular speaker wire. I doubt the 5500s are running on anything heavier than 16ga wire, and may even be running on 18ga. All you would do is go to RadioShack or Home Depot and get 100ft of wire at the max. If you just want to splice the wire to extend it, just get 25ft of the stuff.

The Z5500's no longer use attached wires to the speakers. I have 2 sets of them that are going on a year old and neither of them have attached wires. I believe they were only the first run of the set when it first came out, too many people bitched, and reviews bitched only about that being the only downfall to the system, so the pitched it.

Ive owned the Klipsch Promedia 5.1s before I got these, amp blew, and to me these sound better.

Correct. Unless you get some overstock from a long long time ago, it's the regular speaker wire setup.

Alright, so normal speaker wire. So its as simple as taking the end of the wire and coiling the new speaker wire to the end... using some electrical tape and wabam all done?

I'll probably purchase the 5500's then... Best price for those I've found:

$247.81 -- TechOnWeb
http://www.techonweb.com/products/productdetail.aspx?id=B30230******=CN

Can I trust them? Beats paying over $300.

Otherwise Amazon's got them a little more at 255.30 and I do trust them:

This my best bet?

You can get away just using electrical tape, but if you really want to you can go to RS/HD and get some wire connectors for the job.

not sure what you mean buy "coiling" but typically you would just get 16ga copper and stick it into the spring terminals on the back of the speakers and the subwoofer. I doubt the logetech has nice binding posts that you can screw down onto the wire, but that doesnt matter.

You shouldnt need any tape or anything.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/custom...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&index=3#gallery

Looking at the picture, you might want to stick with 18ga. The spring terminals dont look very large and might not accomodate the thicker 16ga cables.

btw, what I mean is that you go and buy like 100 feet of cable from home depot, and just use 1 wire per speaker to the length you need. I wouldnt bother with connecting two short speaker cables together and binding with electrical tape... Wire is too inexpensive to have to resort to such practices.
