I know that, but I don't want to be completely dependent on it.

I like having a hard copy, and I'm so used to CD/DVD.

Not sure I can gift a copy of DOD:S or not, but I got it free with my Black Box and have never played it, so if there is a way for me to gift it; consider it yours if you want it, otherwise I have no idea where you can buy it.

Anybody know if this is possible?

if i buy hl2 will it come with it??

Certain packages have it I believe, but none that I have seen in a while. Really, buying it off Steam then making a backup is probably the best way. Or as I said above you can have mine for free if that is possible.

Good luck.

It's on Steam, but as I said, I'm not sure whether I can gift it or not. I can try when I get home to see if it is possible. I will PM you to let you know either way.

Cheers,

As people have said earlier.
1. You can back the files up to a CD.
2. You've got to use steam either way.

I'd like to add:

3. Steam is soooo much more convenient that CDs. The one downside is it takes a little longer to get everything installed if you connection isn't quick. Being able to login pretty much anywhere is a nice feature, I don't even know where my HL cds are anymore (Not that I could use them to install anyway)

Why don't you (not your mom) want to buy stuff on Steam? It is easy, quick, reliable and secure.

The Steam client has a built in utility to create a back up. You can select CD size, DVD size, or custom size if you'd prefer just to back it up to another hard drive.

there's no way to play without steam anyway, so just get it through steam. its no different than buying something from any other online retailer.

if you buy it on steam, you never have to worry about losing or scratching your discs. i really don't see why you need a hard copy, especially when you HAVE to use steam to play it anyway.

If you're 100% set on buying a physical CD, you can buy the Counterstrike: Source package from most retailers. Day of Defeat: Source is included with it.
