Where can I buy dated hardware (mobo/CPU/RAM combo)?

This might be a silly question, but I'm potentially looking to buy a motherboard/CPU/RAM combo that is dated. That is, I don't want it to have been released in 2015 or 2016. I'd probably be looking at a 2013 or 2014 release.

Newegg is my go-to for this stuff, but they don't exactly carry old inventory, nor should they. Where would I go for something that is new in box but not necessarily new in release date? I don't really care for eBay on this though.

3rd party sellers on Amazon usually carry that sort of thing, but be prepared to spend some $$$. As components (especially motherboards) become harder to find, they get expensive. For example, when my LGA1155 motherboard became unstable, it was cheaper to sell the CPU and replace it with newer components. The few new 1155 motherboards were priced 2-4 times higher than when they were in production.

However, if you are OK with used parts, the FS/FT sub-forum is full of them (although many times their asking prices for 3-7 year old hardware is a little high), in my opinion.

Fair question. Don't need the latest and greatest. Just need something that works. (Not for me though, I like the latest and greatest.)

I would just buy refurbished whole systems with good specs that have been checked out by someone who knows what they are doing. Hell you can even find new in box decent Haswell based systems being sold for $200 to $300 sometimes.

Also, if you just want a good computer at a good price, watch for deals in Dell Outlet (especially when they have 35% off coupons, usually quarterly).

Thanks. My intention in buying an old combo was because I expected that older systems would cost less than $100, but I guess the rarer they are, the more expensive they get and this would not be the case.... guess we'll have to figure something else out unless I go used.

Newegg also sells a lot of older refurbished desktops for under $200 (as low as $76 + $2 for shipping depending on what would work for you).

If you are very careful when looking over the specs, you can find fairly decent hardware for not much money. However be closely mindful.

Just be warned. Most anything $100 or less is going to be Core 2 refurbished with integrated graphics. Flash and HTML5 will put a very heavy load on those.

That is a cheap machine. How well will a Linux distro such as Linux Lite or Manjaro will perform on it?
