I purchased a MB PCCHIPS K8T800 M860 V1.0 754 motherboard and a AMD Sempron 3000+ cpu from Newegg. On the MB manufacturers website the cpu is listed as supported but when I started the comp up for the first time I got a message saying the cpu wasn't recognized by the MB. I contacted teck support and they told me I need to update BIOS but I need a non 64bit socket 754 cpu to do so. And I cannot find any online! I'f you know where I can get one please tell me, as I need to deliver this comp to it's new owner on monday :( I'll pay overnight shipping if I have to.

Try forcing the cpu to 32 bit mode. I don't know how myself, or I'd walk you through it.

I don't know that there are "non" 64 bit CPU's for socket 754, but your problem defiantly sounds like a BIOS update is in order. I would imagine an older socket 754 CPU, one that the current BIOS supports, would do the trick.

Edit: Anyone know if this has to do with "E6" CPU's? I think I read something about some motherboards needing an updated BIOS to work with E6 revision CPU's.

So I guess the question is do you know someone with an older revision of a socket 754 CPU that you could borrow (an odd request now that I think about it)?

It's not the 64-bitness that is the problem (all Athlon64s support x86-64); likely it just doesn't recognize the CPU stepping. If you can find an older/slower S754 CPU it should work.

Edit: there were 32-bit-only Semprons, but I'm not sure what CPU you have now. I suppose if it was a VERY old motherboard/BIOS it might only support the 32-bit ones.

yeah, here's the e-mail pc chips support sent me:

"In order the to support on the E4 or E6 stepping of the CPU such as sempron 64. the bios need to be update. The only to update the bios willl be using a non sempron 64 or Non E4 or E6 setting of the CPU. Please contact your vendor for more information."

I ended up just getting a different motherboard and i'm having it next dayed to me. Whats really annoying is the the cpu and the motherboard are also sold as a bundle, and if you read the reviews here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustratingReview.asp?item=N82E16813185050
You can see that almost everyone who has purchased this MB has had the same problem. It is a cheap, crappy mobo though. I shouldn't have even thought of getting it. Was just trying to save money I guess.

PC CHIPS Motherboards make great bird cage liners, I get so many bad ones that I'm stocked for life.

I had bought a new sempron 3400+ for a old compaq that was given to me and initially when I installed the cpu, it didn't recognize the cpu, it came up unknown cpu, but it was booting and installed windows fine, so i checked compaq and found a bios update and it went fine, now recognizes the cpu with no problems

Sounds like newegg owes you a full refund, without taking a 15% restocking fee, because they mistakenly recommended the bundle.
