WTF the Wii launched in September with 6-million units and a followup 4-million by the end of the year.

And yet finding one was nearly impossible. Apparently the litmus test for being a paperlaunch is not being able to find the product.

I'd say it's not being able to find the product, and there being every indication that it's in extremely limited supply.
The lack of availability basically proves what people have been saying about it being effectively a paper launch.

No one claimed the Wii was a paper launch. Being unable to find a product doesn't necessarily mean the product has been paperlaunched, but if someone says it has and you can't find it. In an episode of CSI, if someone's at a known murder scene and they use their blood detection spray to check where the blood is, that's one thing. If someone uses that spray somewhere else and finds blood, that doesn't mean a murder has occurred.

Paper launch is no product anywhere. The only difference between it and vaporware is the paper launched product actually comes out. If they sell even 1 it is not a paper launch.

The GTX 470 and 480 WAS a paper launch. Let us not forget what a paper launch is. It means review samples were launched and all details were disclosed prior to any product being made available. This WAS the case, but it no longer resides that way and should not be the topic of this conversation.

The product IS available, but is hard to find because the supply does not currently meet the demand. This happened with some the ATI cards in the 5XXX series last round. No big deal...

My broker is trying to procure twenty five 480s and is being met with resistance and some suppliers have even used the word "hoarding",

I thought March 26th was the official unveiling? They were not available at that time, just review samples. Seems like a paper launch to me...

I don't know I just get brief answers to my question of why it's taking so long? 980Xs were no problem. They are tripping over them apparently.

There are several vendors that have 480's in stock right now. Provantage has them so be quick and grab one.

Vendors have the cards on hand but are only allowing small numbers to show up in stock at a time. I don't know why they are doing this!

A few opinions come to surface, but i dont think nV is doing it to deceive the market that cards are steadily and without end hitting the market.

I mean its not like we dont have some numbers, saying we have about 10k cards and that there wont be that many more before a refresh.

just do the reresh right, is all one can as for. and in a timely manner this time around.

I know a guy who's been scarfing up every 480 he can find and turning around and making a $100 profit for them on fleabay. So far he's sold about 60 of them.

What amazes me is people are willing to pay that much for a high end card with no warranty. Considering DOA rates on consumer electronics that's madness.

It's a safe bet the smaller board makers will take the opportunity to weasel out of doing RMAs on cards bought from a private party on ebay. Even EVGA requires a receipt from an authorized vendor to register your card for their lifetime warranty.

Coupled with a card which runs at the boiling point of water (so at least one 25C -> 100C -> 25C thermal cycle a day for a typical desktop) this could leave quite a few fanboys rather upset with NV. I'll have a hard time summoning sympathy for the "victims" if it does.

Most have good warranties. Note that lifetime means through life of the product cycle. ;)

As far as cycling most idle around 60C so 40C delta isn't that bad. I can get mine >100C easily with furmark but most things won't push it nearly that high. Where things get scary is when you start adding cards. Two is about the most people should consider. 3X and 4X (!) is just for showing off IMO.

I've pulled the cooler off and this thing is built in a way that I've never seen before in a video card.

Newegg has stock in and out throughout the day and usually has a few GTX 470s in stock. The 470 is soooo tempting, but I don't know if it's worth the price of upgrading over my 4890.
