I want to buy a GTX 480. Preferably an EVGA but I am open to other good brands. I can't find anyplace that has them in stock.

Does anybody know where I can buy one now? I'm in the U.S.

thanks

Well according to Fudzilla and other *cough* independent sources it should have massive availability.
Let's check New Egg....checks....zip.zilch,nada.
Not even a single GTX480....ouch.:whiste:

You have to watch all of the vendors like a hawk to catch and buy one in stock before someone else does.

They do have massive availability, they are just selling exceptionally well.

If you check on a daily or preferably hourly basis on your favorite etailer you should see them pop into stock although no guarantee of the brand you would like.

Newegg lists the ASUS GTX480 ETA for tomorrow 4/19/2010. So you might check there. As of right now, it's still out of stock but remains at MSRP of 499.00. (Don't know if it'll be gouged by tomorrow though) Check there tomorrow or choose Auto-Notify and you'll get an email alert.
And I think i see where a lot of the 480 initial stock is going. Ebay is flooded with them and people are buying them for well over MSRP. Everyone is a capitalist it seems. LOL.

Trolls aside, they are in stock at Cambridge Microcenter, both EVGA 470 and 480 and at MSRP (+tax in MA :( )

Care to back up that claim? If you can't, it's nonsense.

He can't back that claim anymore than you can backup your claim of nonsense.
So who wins? Neither.
All we can say with certainty, is that whatever stock IS being supplied to OEMs, they are selling out fairly quickly. Even over MSRP on the gouging sites. Newegg seems to be gouging as well, but to give them the least bit credit, they do seem to be gouging the lowest. (as if there were some honor in this practice at all). Probably why they always sell out so quickly.

Its nonsense in that you cant call sub 10k in 480 numbers for "mass availability". There are ALOT of people who want to get a 480, they will NOT be getting a 480 this month, in Norway, you wont find these cards in netshops before 01.06.10 last i checked.
Lonyo is being sarcastic from what i can tell.

Lets not fool ourselves, this is a paperlaunch in so many ways it hurts to mention them. But regardless, cards will be trickling into the market, much like the 5970 launch/stock.

In many ways, the smartest thing to do is wait a few months if you "can". Im betting good money on 5870 and 470 prices going down to msrb by then.

Massive availibility was tongue in cheek i'm pretty sure. Nobody with any pulse on the Fermi release would try and defend a claim of massiive availibility for these cards.

For the record, if I said these cards have limited availibility I would not be being sarcastic.

Gonna have to hawk over the etailers to find one, otherwise paying extra on ebay is an option.

GALAXY seems to be the worst, I repeat worst Nvidia vendor. They have a poor quality control department, and my Galaxy 9800GX2 would also overheat and turned out that I needed an RMA. I would advise people to steer clear from this company when wanting to buy high end GPUs. Although there customer service reps are very responsive, their quality control and warranty service isn't all that great.

Agreed. They have decent enough demand, but I'm pretty confident that the number of GTX480's that were actually released is minuscule.

Sorry, you're wrong. You can't make claims and then tell people to prove them wrong. If you make a claim, you must back it up. No one has even the tiniest reason to believe that there are lots of fermis. Prove it. None of your usual BS please.

Of course he can't back it up because its not true.

Massive availability would mean that it is available everywhere. Maybe he was thinking massive production or something else. Either way, he is wrong.

Turns out it seems he was being sarcastic anyway. Sorry, my sarcasm meter is broken. As was someone else's. The one who said "nonsense". ;)

All Fermi's are selling out even at over MSRP, which I think is a kneejerk buy. People should wait for the channels to fill and prices equalize.

I ragged on ATI for their 5800 launch and I'm doing the same to Nvidia. Both have done a piss-poor job of releasing products. What's worse, however, is that NV will be running out of parts and not everyone who wants a 480 will even be able to purchase one.

I've found a few 470s in stock in Australia but no 480s, all sold out at ridiculous prices with ETA unknown at this stage or in a few weeks. Massive paper launch worldwide. From the other thread it seems ATI are hedging their bets in the next few generations with manufacturing from both GF and TSMC whereas Nvidia is sticking to TSMC. If TSMC screws up again we can expect this from Nvidia again in future- ATI are playing it much safer.

Although if I were Nvidia I'd probably do the same, do you really want to partner with the former foundry of your rival? AMD still have a significant investment in GF.

unfortunately, I don't think that prices are going to tank for either side any time soon. If you can find a 480 at msrp then buy it.

All vanilla 480's are the same apart from stickers so the quality is the same. I prefer evga myself so that is what I try to buy. If I can't find another one but find say bfg I'd get one of those instead.

Yeah I don't see how this launch is any more of a paper launch than 5870/5850, they were both in between

I suppose the Wii was a paper launch as well because they were hard as hell to find in the stores for a year. Eventhough they were selling hundreds of thousands of them a month.

Just because it is hard to find a product doesnt make it a paperlaunch. Demand is apparently very high for these cards.

I don't think you can buy one right now unless you have extreme patience and a lot of time on your hands. You would have to refresh websites over and over again daily. I could not wait and went with 2 x 5870 in crossfire.

If you do need it now you would have to overpay on ebay!

WTF the Wii launched in September with 6-million units and a followup 4-million by the end of the year.
