I have a broken breaker bar under my driver's seat. Always there just in case I need to beat someone but also an excuse that I'm taking in for replacement to the cops!

Didn't you ever play thief? You need to sneak around town and find the shop in a back alley. Pick up some water arrows while you're at it, smoke bombs are good too.

How about a lead pipe? Wrap it in leather yourself if you really want a leather one.
I like this idea. Gives it sentimental value too.
A modern "lepip" (heavy stick wrapped with leather; I suspect that this is a made-up word).

A sap strikes me as a "sneak up and pop 'em on the head" weapon. Maybe a blackjack has more effective range.

Cheap telescoping batons break fairly easily, they're only good for <10 hard blows against something like a heavy bag, and I would expect less against concrete or brick (misses).

Suggestion: cheap two-piece pool cue and carrying case.

Took me all of 30 seconds on Google. Search for "leather sap."

If you want to defend yourself get a gun.

Mace, tasers, etc. are fun toys but real weapons go bang.

As an added bonus in most states you can legally carry a concealed handgun. Knives, saps, etc. are entirely another story.
