Where are the small sporty wagons?

Honorable mention to the Outback. If they still sold the Legacy wagon, it would fit in perfectly.

Exactly. If you were considering used, the 2006 Legacy GT or GT/Spec B wagon would fit the bill. I have the GT wagon and can't say enough about it.

I agree. A friend of mine has an 05 LGT - great car. Basically the same motor I have in the FXT, I think.

FWIW, the Patriot form factor of the Caliber has 23 cu ft of cargo with seats up, and 53 cu ft with them down. Seems small until you realize it comes with a roof rack. Haven't found anything I wanted to haul that didn't fit.

Looks like it gained an inch of ride height and some interior chintz over my 08 model, so it may not be the same car any more. Ours gets great gas mileage, is quite reliable, roomy and as I said fun to flog around. Haven't taken it off road, but I have the wrangler for that.

That said, while I had the mustang insured this summer my 2.5 year old and 4.5 year old would NOT let me drive either jeep. They'd run out to the garage and climb in the mustang while I was getting ready every time. So opinions on the Patriot's fun factor do vary.
