There have been many posts insinuating and/or outright declaring the the US had it coming.

WHY ARE THESE POSTERS NOT BANNED FOR LIFE?

We have banned quite a few people for grossly tasteless, hateful, and bigoted remarks. We are not going to ban everyone who expresses an unpopular opinion. If you have specific examples of posts that you think are over the line, please PM us with a link, and we will examine each situation individually.

Thats right. They seem to have slipped. They were on top of things early yesterday and started slipping as time went one.

There's so much information to wade through, that it's probably hard for them to stay on top as needed. Can you provide some links that the mods can check and take appropriate action against if needed?

Bigdee also has a point. As disgusting as someone's opinion may be, they have a right to it and we and the mods have to respect that. It's only when those opinions cross the lines and break some rules that action can be taken.

The mods are here. I've had two of my posts locked. I made such a HUGE mistake (that I'd rather not talk about) on the first post, that I'm surprised they didn't ban me right there on the spot.:eek::eek::eek:

My guess is that they have the intellect to allow people to have their own opinions.

I've seen some true garbage on here, stuff that shouldn't be allowed on an AMERICAN hosted site. This garbage includes ANTI-AMERICAN crap, in support of yesterdays tragedy, and RACIST CRAP against arabs and muslims in general. While there are obviously some other countries being glared at right now, replies such as "nuke the sand ni**ers" and "you guys had it coming, i think its funny" should be instant permanant bans. Mods, please be careful to allow people to state their intelligent opinion, yet at the same time remove the people who are only here to increase tension and cause problems. Thanks.

Because people are entitled to an opinion, which is personal. Frankly, I think all the racist posts, and people saying the US should nuke half the planet back to the stone age are much worse.

We just have to all think thru what we say before we say it. You may hate _______ right now, but who knows what will happen in the next few days.

I cant see how someone can say "God Bless America" out of one side of their mouth, and say "ban everyone that doesnt agree with the masses" out of the other.

Its quite a contradition.

Maybe if one of your relatives was killed in the blast you'd feel differently. Maybe if the view you've woken up to every morning is now violently changed. Maybe you were there when it happened. Its a lot more intense for new yorkers than a lot of you outside of NYC can understand.

We're not known for being the nicest bunch to begin with, although we do have this immense pride in our city, and to put it nicely, its been defiled. I've heard some amazing things from people I never thought capable of saying such things today.

Just let the anger subside.

A) For AT LEAST 100 years (I can't remember much before T. Roosevelt) the US has often adopted a "Policeman of the world community" and a "Defenders of democracy" foreign policy that has often lead us to poke our fingers into other people's pies when they do not want our "aid." I am trying not to editorialize or say anyone is right or wrong. The history of US FP decisions for the last 100 years is well-documented and easily accessible. Flip through your old US history textbook. This is a statement of fact. For better or worse, these policies have occasionally brought down the ire of the receivers. That's also a statement of fact. Anyone who isn't aware of anti-American sentiments among people in China, Iraq, Czech Republich and other places within the world community is simply not paying attention.

B) Bearing in mind the fact that US Policy is well-known and documented over the past 100 years, and that there are people in the world who dislike "US Hedonism" as the Chinese state news likes to call it, why would it even come as a surprise for someone to claim the US had it coming? If America had no enemies, why would anyone, foreign or domestic, layout this assault? Does anyone honestly believe that all animosity towards the US came because other people are nuts and just don't get it? Sometimes, the US is the aggressor, too!

I don't say the US had it coming to them, because I feel that no matter how obtrusive a foreign government is, that NEVER calls for the obliteration of thousands of innocent people. However, opinions are opinions, and they are just like armpits. How come you are allowed to proclaim US innocence (albeit not in so many words; if you agreed with the sentiment, you wouldn't have made your post.) while anyone who takes the opposing viewpoint should be "banned for life?"

If it's going to go that way, I think people who can't be honest with themselves about their own country's history, both good and bad, should also be banned for life. One of the greatest things about America has been its ability to endure and grow from terrible things that it has done in the past, even to its own countrymen. The happenings of the past should educate us on how to behave in the future. May all that education not fall on deaf ears.

The above statement is nuts. I was born in Czech Rep and still go back there every year to visit friends and family.
There is no more bad feeling against US then in any other country in Europe - UK, Germany, Switzerland etc.
And much less then in France for example.
So, don't say things you have absolutely no idea about.

Theres already FAR too much elitism in this forums:

Distinction based on number of posts.
Special distinctions based mostly on popularity (elite members).

And the most offensive of all:

User Ratings.

Basically, it allows you to assign a number to what people think of you, and its disgusting. Why do we feel the need to judge others? WTF is the point of it?

And now you want to ban everyone that doesnt agree with unpopular opinions?

I say we ban YOU, and all like YOU!

I'm so sick and tired of this banning sh*t. Noone used to get banned for anything but screwing someone over in the trade board or obviously causing trouble by posting a million times etc....

WTF has happened to this place? 3 years ago it was a nice place to chill out. And now its almost sickening at some points. It was fun back when there were a few hundred or thousand members, but now I believe its starting to grow beyond its ability to control itself.

For the love of god, remove the user ratings. Ive had too many people question my trading trustworthiness based on my rating, and I dont know who I pissed off to get it so low. But I've never screwed anyone trading, and I shouldnt have to be questioned because I dont have the same opinions as the sheep that overpopulate these forums.

The mods will deal with postings as they always have, but we have to keep in mind that this is such an emotional thing that lots of people are saying things they would not otherwise say. Let things simmer down a bit.

As for "having it coming", that's a stupid statement, but as I have posted in other threads, as the sole superpower in the world, the US has put itself in a dangerous position. It's foreign policy has often angered many other countries (not just 'rogue' ones). The US has been cast in the role of policman of the world, and views itself as 'good' and anyone in disagreement as 'bad'. To the rest of the world, there's a lot of grey in between there. It was only a matter of time before terrorism got to US shores. As horrible as it is, this is the only way the "have-nots" know to strike back at the "haves". :(

You're joking, right? I feel sorry for the mods who have to try to keep on top of all the foul mouth stank trolls and bigots who have crawled out from under various rocks. Ya think maybe they've had a lot to keep after? :Q

I once read the manual for the human body. It says there is supposed to be only one asshole issued for each human being. Between the jackass terrorists and the rude sh8s advocating mindless violence against entire ethnic groups on this forum, it is abundantly clear that someone has been over-producing. There are simply too many assholes in the world. :|

The mods are part time volunteers, and I think the events of the past few days have made keeping on top of the forums a full time job. Credit where credit is due.

Jank, I'd appreciate it if you left your accusations at the door! Why get so defensive? You call me a liar without knowing my experience or my basis for the statements I've made. If your life experience is valid, how can you say that mine is not? Don't tell me that I have no idea about something if you have no idea about me!

You as a native Czech may not dislike the US, nor anyone you know, but I know a few Czechs (and other Eastern Europeans, for that matter) around here who are unhappy with the way the US deals with eastern Europe in general--trying to help when it is not needed and not helping when it is. The point I was trying to make was not generalizing about any one person or even a group of people, but that the US has enemies, and some of those enemies are so because of US actions. And some of those enemies are fanatical enough to do such a thing as crash a plane into a skyscraper.

In fact, my mention of Czech Republic was to help drive home the fact that there are many people (note my mention of 'global community') who dislike the US--Asians, Arabs, Europeans, South and Central Americans. Nothing more.

I love how people try to refute an entire statement on the basis of nothing more than that they represent an exception...If anyone else who is Chinese or Iraqi is going to make the same criticism because I happened to single out your country (not YOU), don't waste your time; you have missed the point.

How about this. You express your opinion, and everyone else will express theirs. That sound good? Of course. Now, if you hear something offensive, it's your choice to ignore it. I don't agree with racism and some of the remarks in light of yesterday's incident though.

Uh, why don't you just shut off the user rating feature? I personally dislike it too.

P.S. I don't think Elite really means much either.
