Where are the mid range DX10 card reviews?

i could have sworn i have heard about these being available in the retail sector - and i see them at zzf...where are reviews comparing these to items like a x1950xt? i can't believe anadtech doesn't have a review....or did i miss it? if so, obviously i can't find it so could somebody give me a link?

That's one of the reasons I buy from Newegg instead. ZZF sometimes lists parts that they don't really have in stock.

Newegg doesn't have any 8600 cards in their database yet, so my guess is you'll need to wait, or pick up one of the under-$250 8800GTS-320 Hot Deals.

i just did a search on zzf and the 8600 was listed for $189, now it is gone????

i can defiantely wait, i was just surprised i saw it at zzf but haven't seen a review...

eWiz has two 8600GTSs in stock. They have a passively cooled one from Gigabyte. The heatsink on it is massive. Newegg has an 8500GT in stock.

EDIT:
Newegg did have an 8500GT in stock a couple of minutes ago. Now it's gone from the site.

DailyTech info -- a post in there says NDAs are lifted tomorrow.

The raw specs of the 8600GTS don't seem very impressive, 32 Stream processors vs. 96 for the 8800GTS, 128 for the GTX. 1/3 the power on paper.

specially considering how the gts is starting to inch closer to 200 Text

I found it funny that they started showing up online, and at Worst Buy before they the NDA ended. When that happens, could they just buy one from Best Buy and publish those benchmarks before the NDA was over?

I'm stuck here. I have a Shuttle XPC that has one PCIe x16 slot and one PCI slot. I'd like to get an 8800GTS, but in doing so, I lose use of my only PCI slot. Anyone know where I can get an external PCI card enclosure that's attached to the PCI slot through a PCI slot extension cable? That's the only way I can have use of my PCI slot if I get an 8800GTS. I use my PCI slot for an ATI Theater 650 Pro. card.

If a retailer sold you one? Sure. You didn't sign an NDA.

Although then NVIDIA could sue whoever sold it to you before they were supposed to.

They got them at best buy.

I could swear he just made it up on the spot 😕

I've seen one somewhere. I think someone posted something like it here on AT though it could have been on the SFFTech forums or [ H ]ard|OCP forums. Anyway they do exist:

http://www.mobl.com/expansion/products/pci_expansion/

Those take one PCI slot and expand them into four or more PCI slots externally. The one I saw simply took one PCI slot and made it external with its own enclosure. It was also very much cheaper than the ones I just linked to.

oh man, that performance is horrible. it looks like nvidia has a high and low end part with no middle. imho those cards should be $100-$150 🙁

since i think my x1800xt is the bastard child of gpus since nobody ever tests them, anybody know off the top of their head how it compares to a x1650xt and x1950pro?

man, hope ati has something worth looking at.

Digit-Life is usually pretty good at comparing a broad swath of cards:

No X1800XT in the current ones (you can probably go back a few months and find one), but IIRC it's a bit faster than the X1800GTO.

Ironically, I have the exact same card (a 256MB X1800XT). It didn't seem like the extra 256MB of memory did a whole lot for it most of the time.

i was really expecting the 8600gt/s to be much better and that may be the nice new $200 card - that is what i like to spend on a gpu when i upgrade, but man, these results are bad. guess i will definately wait until ati/amd comes out with something that is hopefully better for the $$$, who knows, maybe this set of ati/amd gpus will be like the a64 was to the netburst architecture....nvidia sure has set the bar low enough...still surprised at the benches

i just insalled ff 2.x so i don't know if it is my browser or what, but why over 1/2 the comments in the 8600gt reviews in white text?
