Where Are The Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 Motherboards?

Mr Beagle, I am still having problems with my rear (the motherboards) speaker outputs. No matter what I change the rear to there is just silence. As mentioned in my other thread I thought maybe the rear was blown out of my amp on my Monsoon system, so I plugged the rear speakers in the front speaker input and they work fine. The system sees the rear speakers I think because when I plug them into another port the speaker menu comes up and asks which speakers I would like these to be. U have updated all the drivers I I can think of so is there something I am missing? Thanks, JAS

Good Sunday Afternoon Everyone.

One of the reasons that this Thread has begun to have excellent participation is the same reason that the Thread started late last year pertaining to the Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6 board was an overwhelming success - namely, we each contribute in our own way to the common good, and we do it with a conscious degree of overt civility. We have only experienced two (2) posters that I can recall so far on this Thread (and it's NOT you Mr. Sal) that were approaching the tag of "Thermus Rectus" a/k/a "Flaming A--Hole." However, we were blessed that their participation seems to have been short-lived.

Mr. JasTech has privately shared his present situation with me, and without revealing any confidences, let me just say that his Guardian Angel was with him earlier this year, and he could have easily been called Home. But the Lord wasn't quite ready to receive him just yet, so he got a pass! I am quite sure that all of us will bear in mind that we had to start somewhere in the personal computer arena, and that someone(s) likely helped us along the way. That is one of the prime reasons a Thread like this exists.

So, on a Sunday afternoon, I'm also sure we will all give thanks for what we may have, and the blessing that He has given each of us (and not for just the material possessions that we may have accumulated along the way), and enjoy the fellowship that this Forum and this Thread provides to each of us. Have a nice day. TheBeagle 😀

Hello Mr. JasTech.

Sounds like you may have inadvertently mis-configured the software that runs the onboard audio, OR, you may have mis-wired the front speakers, resulting in the back audio ports being disabled.

The first thing to do is to download the latest Realtek driver (Version 1.80) from the Gigabyte support site. Then, completely remove the present Realtek driver you may have installed (Programs and Features in Vista). Reboot the PC after you remove the present driver.

Then install the new 1.80 driver. Reboot the PC again.

Using the RealTek High-definition utility in the tray or in Control Panel, configure the audio for standard settings, WITHOUT enabling the front speaker ports. Try the rear speakers. If they work, then it was a software configuration issue. If not, then remove the front speaker port cabling from the X38 board, and try it again. You might have to reboot to clear the audio settings.

Let us know what comes of all of that. Good Luck! TheBeagle 😀

Hi guys
thanks for the welcome and the helpful pointers. fully intend to try a higher fsb with lower multi.

Had a good overnight prime run Stable 9x400

Have been reading around , has anyone found that maxing pci-E Overvoltage control helps reduce vdroop??

Turn up your PCIE to max +0.35v ALWAYS this is what the bios does anyway when you set the voltage settings to normal. I hear vdroop is less when this is max. make sure you select

Mr Beagle, thank you for the support! Well I did as you asked and now running the 1.8 drivers from Gigabyte. And it is still not working, I again unplugged front and rear speakers then plugged the rear speakers into the "green" input and told the pop-up menu that they were the front speakers and it worked. So, I then took the front speakers and plugged them into the "black" jack and told the po-up menu they were the rear and it still didn't work. No matter what I try the rear wont work. Thanks, JAS

Hello everyone,

I am building a new gaming PC, in the range of 2k, slowly buying parts over the next 2-3 months. I plan on using this MB, although I plan on buying it somewhat toward November or December. In any case, I have done a little research on the RAM requirements, and many of the users here are utilizing RAM that is not on the Qualified Vendors List as listed on Gigabyte's website. Would using high end RAM that is not on the QVL potentially cause compatibility problems, or is that a non issue?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

travster, First I would like to welcome you to this thread! Now let me try and shed some light on this for you, and others here will do so also. It's not an non-issue, you just have to be careful of what you buy. There are some poor quality RAM out there and that would cause a problem on allot of motherboards and this one of course. As you can see I run the G.Skill 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 1000 Kit and it runs just fine no errors and it will take some OC'ing too. If you stay with High Performance modules then you will be ok. Just look at what those here are using on this motherboard. If yo have any more questions just give us a shout! Thanks, JAS

Good Evening Everyone.

Memory Upgrade Report: As I am writing this posting, my rig is humming along at 438x8 = 3.50GHz @ 1.4625V, AND the Memory (8GB of G.Skill, DDR2 1000) has likewise found a new happy home at 2.40 "B" Strapping @ 2.10V inside the warm nesting slots of my PC.

The new memory arrived today from Newegg.com and I just lowered the memory voltage to G.Skill's published spec of 2.10V, shut down the PC, removed the old 4GB of Crucial PC8500 memory, and inserted the new stuff. It booted right up, and has been VERY quiet since completing the bootup. There is virtually NO disk thrashing from accessing the paging file. The silence is a bit disconcerting, since I was always used to the hard drive action in the background. So far, so good. CPU-Z reports the memory is peculating at 525.4 MHz @ 2.1V, which is 25 MHz above the SPD setting. Obviously, I haven't yet tried some serious OCing with the memory, since I just want to get a feel for how the PC performs at these settings and with these resources.

I'll keep you all posted on developments. Best regards to everyone, and have a nice evening. TheBeagle 😀

Mr Beagle, glad to hear that your memory has arrived. And it?s also nice that you are having no problems and everything works. Just curious, what timings are you using ? Are the DIMMs getting hot ?

***edit***
Have you tried anything with memtest, Prime95 or Orthos ?

regards

Blazer

Hello Mr. Blazer.

Sorry about not stating the timings. They are set at 5-5-5-15. The memory does NOT seem hot at all, and everything seems to be working OK. I didn't get around to running any test programs on it yet, but I did run three simultaneous sessions of Photoshop CS3 with a very large rendering, and it didn't even seem to break a sweat, and it cranked out the results like it was only running one session. That's not too bad an actual usage test I think.

I'll keep you posted as more time permits. TheBeagle 😀

I'm considering a GA-X38-DQ6 because the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 was a fiasco - I bought it along with a Core 2 Extreme QX6850, which -as you might know- Gigabyte now officially doesn't support on this board. There I am, stuck at 1066mhz FSB instead of 1333mhz. If I try 1333mhz, the system will randomly BSOD on me.

So it seems I'm going to have to switch to another motherboard. The GA-X38-DQ6 is listed as compatible with the QX6850, so that shouldn't be a problem.

What's this board like, especially compared to the GA-N680SLI-DQ6? I would be running the QX6850 along with a GeForce 8800 Ultra, an Ageia PhysX card and a Creative XFi XtremeMusic (which for me has always worked fine under Vista, btw). Also 4x1gb PC7200 RAM from OCZ (two identical dualchannel kits).

Any serious issues I should be aware of?

Can't help you with the 680i but i've been doing a blogg ogf my findings of the X38 which may help you.
My last 2 boards were Asus , commando & p5k. P5K was the best , but i'm really pleased with this board.

luck🙂

Thanks for the link, good info you've got there. I see this board has a backplate for the CPU socket, but thank God it's removeable - contrary to the GA-N680SLI-DQ6. So with the X38 I should be able to place a decent aftermarket CPU cooler, since using custom backplates is possible again with this board.

Now I'll just have to wait for my webshop... I really hope their customer service lives up to their reputation and decide to replace my board. Otherwise, I'll be forced to sell it secondhand which would be a shame.

Yep like i said in the removing crazy cool section , was a bit disappointed that I've not had chance to try running with it on, but even when not watercooling I tend to use tharmalright which needs it's own backplate. It's easy too remove. It's a shame in a way that the cpu part & the northbridge aren't 2 seperate pieces that link together for full coverage, or just leave the chipset crazy cooled. Still you can't have everything🙂

Hope all goes well

Cheers🙂

Well, I'll first have to wait for a reply from the webshop (Komplett Netherlands) where I bought the board. Hopefully they're willing to replace the board with the X38.

On the other hand... an employee of Gigabyte Netherlands has stated that the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 doesn't support the QX6850 yet, note the 'yet'. If that's true, then it would be a matter of waiting things out. Whether or not I've got the patience for that is quite another matter... 🙂

has stated that the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 doesn't support the QX6850 yet
yes usually it's just a bios update, in which case , its unlikely that they'd replace.🙁

Unless you can manage to persued them it's impossible to wait as that leaves you without a pc etc., 🙂

luck🙂

I'm afraid that the ?yet? thing refers to rev 2 boards only. Gigabyte's cpu support list for the rev 1 board has the QX6850 marked as N/A=not supported. There are no news as to whether the rev 2 boards will support the beast ?yet?. Gary's last post on the subject can be found on page 74 of the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 thread.

New BIOS is out, Ver. F6A..................

Sweet going to try it out later today!

I also got my hands on an E6850 CPU! I also went for RAM shopping and only found Super Talent DDR2 800 CL4 for a good price, made an order for a Kingston DDR2 1066, should come next week hopefully!

Ouch hadn't realised that , well it may help your case in exchanging a board due to incompatable components.

Hope it works out😀

Well, earlier today I got a reply from my webshop stating that I could exchange the board. So that's fine - now I'll read into the GA-X38-DQ6 to see if it's worth getting this board in exchange.

BrianDickens, Welcome to our thread! You can see on my post what I run with this motherboard, and all works well. Beleive me there is plenty of help here for you if needed. Thanks, JAS

Mr Beagle, I need your help again friend. I am still having the rear channel problem. At this time it's no big deal except when I listen to The Gold Quartet or Jars of Clay, but I will be playing Crysis and Quake Wars. I would hate to take this MB out and do a RMA and wait for how ever long without it, I would go crazy, lol. Thanks, JAS
