Hey Anand,
My old Via box is trying to crap out, again. I need a new box in the worst way. I want a little one this time, without hog graphics. I like what AMDs done over the last three years and so I want to start with one of their new 35 watt AM2 or S1 CPUs in a mobo that has a really cool bridgeset. A bridge set with DVI out, Azalia sound and GB ethernet, minimum. The mobo I want will have IGP. If it don't have IGP, I don't want it. But, I want a pretty damn good IGP, one with a lots of local frame buffer memory. Later, I MIGHT buy one of those flaming GPUs if the new box comes with a 16xPCIe slot. But, I don't want to listen to a 450 watt power supply screaming at me - saying plug a hot graphics board into me, I can handle it. I don't want a mobo with a bridgeset that is hiding 20 Watts somewhere, either.
Now here's my question, Anand. Where are the new AMD 35 watt CPUs hiding. Has AMD sold them all to Dell, by chance? Or maybe they sold them all in Taiwan or Japan. I'm even willing to try one of the new S1 Turion 64 X2 CPUs, if one of the SSF guys would just offer a box for S1. But, I don't think they are smart enough to do it. They like flames shooting out everywhere. They think flames equal cash, maybe it does?
Here are AMD's P/Ns for the retail boxed versions of these CPUs:
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ - ADD3800CUBOX
Athlon 64 3500+ - ADD3500CNBOX
Sempron 64 3500+ - SDD3500CNBOX
Sempron 64 3400+ - SDD3400CBNOX
Sempron 64 3200+ - SDD3200CNBOX
Sempron 64 3000 - SDD3000CNBOX
Turion 64 X2 TL-56 - TMDTL56CTWOF
Turion 64 X2 TL-52 - TMDTL52CTWOF
Turion 64 X2 TL-50 - TMDTL50CTWOF
Well, that's it, all nine of them. I've been waiting with baited breath ever since AMD's announcements, but no-go. How about ringing AMD up and asking them when, or if, the retail versions of the 35 watt CPUs will appear.
Thanks for the space Anand.
