Where are all the LED display notebooks?

I keep hearing about how great these LED "backlit" displays are for notebooks, and that they would start to become widely available at a competative price... but that was 2 years ago.

I still only see the traditional CCFL screens "widely available." In fact, I can't find any notebook LED displays at all accept on Macbooks or a few of those tiny netbooks.

Does it typically take over 2 years for an LCD technology to start reaching at least medium sized market penetration?

I just find it interesting that almost all netbooks are LED backlit, considering most notebooks don't come LED backlit and you pay a premium for it if it is an option.

LED price goes up with screen size significantly. I find the Lenovo T400 available with LED, and also a Sony.

LED screens are still relatively expensive, and in this economy, people are buying value more than cutting edge technology. It is a no cost option here:

However, it says, selecting the LED option will delay shipment. Apparently the LED displays are not yet plentiful. The market place rules.

yea... give it half a year(my prediction is a lot more models around back to school season though prices may not drop much yet). netbooks sort of blossomed during the right time to adopt LED right away. notebooks will take a little time.

Netbooks have much smaller screens. The LED option is a lot cheaper for them, and also more power efficient - netbooks have been plagued with poor battery life.

The cost difference isn't much. Dell's 24" LED LCD is similarly priced as other 24" LCDs. Also, there was that ~$380 Lenovo LED backlit laptop deal (although it was dual core celeron, upgrading to core 2 was only $50 or so). There's also been a couple of others on the low end.

Granted - current cost delta is almost insignificant - but current production of notebook size LED screens is being reduced by several key vendors. All factors related to the current worldwide economic state. That is illustrated by Lenovo with the T400. The LED screen costs no more, but will add 3-4 weeks to delivery time. Current domestic retailers are not going to create much inventory with declining sales, etc. It is all market driven.

With TN panels outselling any other computer display technology over 10 to 1, its obvious that the market isn't interested in the additional quality of LED backlit displays.
