What's all this Black Friday talk about? Is it an American tradition to have batshit insane deals on Black Friday? Is that the day last year where a Wallmart clerk was killed by insane shoppers who barged the door down?

For me it is the day I have off work and can look at the "black" of the inside of my eyelids for longer in the morning.

It is also a day I go grocery shopping. Between people beating each other up for $20 and everyone else eating leftovers, there is no one in the grocery stores.

It used to be a day of guaranteed good deals at most stores, which were also open early. Now the deals have gone downhill. You can still get some good deals but you have to look more. Most of them are online as well. Every year it seems like there's a couple injuries at Wal-Mart on Black Friday. I think someone died over a $29 DVD player a few years ago. Most of the other stores have a ticket system so injuries at other stores are rare. Wal-Mart likes to dehumanize their customers first.

I don't think you should blame Wallmart over the rampant consumerism that compels people to have more concern for a $29 DVD player than they have for the person they're trampling over to get it. This is just people showing how ridiculous they can really be.

Right about now. I bought mine at the end of October, and the price is currently $100 less than what I paid. It's a one day offer though. Most other TV prices are dropping like crap.

Well, the problem with Wal-Mart is that they refused to give out tickets to the people who wait in line (I've heard they changed that for this year though). Instead they just open the doors and let the crowd rush in. After a couple accidents happened, you'd think they'd try to provide a safer option because there's no problems at other stores. The bigger the crowd, the more stupid everyone gets. This is nothing new or unique to this generation.

I get what you're saying, and Wallmart should have done something to mitigate the risks. But the problem really isn't with Wallmart - it's with the rampant stupidity of the Wallmart shoppers.

It kinda is when they advertize extremely good deals with extremely limited supplies (<10 per store) and do nothing to control the resulting crowd.

Black Friday is a lie anyway.
Most places quietly jack up their prices in advance and then Black Friday sales seem like a good deal. They arent.
If there ever was a time when Black Friday was actually a good day to save money its long gone now. Anyone looking for electronics or other typical gift items would do better to frequent their regular hangouts (newegg, amazon, tiger) and just buy something when it seems like a good deal.
