When's the next Homeworld going to show up?

I remember when Homeworld came out and I couldn't get enough of it. It still stands out as one of the few games that I never got tired of (Bioshock is trying to worm its way onto that list right now). The sequels were decent in my opinion but no where as good as the first.

With graphics where they are right now a homeworld-esqe game would be amazing. Is there any chance of any coming out or is the grapchis orientation fixed producers on RTS and FPS games?

*I played Sins but didn't like it*

I'm guessing you're referring to Sins of a Solar Empire? Great game.....but WAY too slow :-\

Sins was fun for a few games but quickly got boring for me. It has too many problems, particularly with the AI.

I heard a rumor, and saw a link somewhere, that showed Relic recently acquired the trademark to Homeworld from whomever owned Sierra. It was a link to the trademark office. Maybe Relic's next game after DoW 2..... :D

Ahh, that would be amazing. The game(s) never got old and even though the AI was a bit rudimentary it wasn't easy by a long shot.

Never.
Or at least not until the console market dies and people start experimenting with computer games again.

All the big money is being dumped into console game developement and that means two things: Shooters and sports, and shitty RPG's that probably started off as shooters.

We will have to wait a long time for things to improve. Every once in a while we get a halfway decent game, but they are too few & far between and some of them only seem good in trailers.

Seconded. The market needs to implode first.

didn't the XBOX 360 actually help out the PC? It's much easier to port games between XBOX 360 -> PC hence we now get alot of Capcom games :)

Capcom's entire lineup is pretty much available on the PC

Devil may Cry 4
Lost Planet

upcoming - Bionoic Commando, Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5

In regards to Console implosion - let it happen on the PS3, instead of the XBOX 360.

I never played any of the Homeworlds, but I heard they were pretty good and if a third one came out I would buy it.

Sins sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for... it's too bad that you didn't like it.

I've been meaning to play through the first two Homeworld games again (but not the expansion, it was more of the same but I didn't care for the story).

Find Nexus - The Jupiter Incident. If you like Homeworld, chances are you'll like Nexus too. Nexus is a tactical fleet simulation, not a strategy game though. Nexus is also available on Steam.

That's a joke right? The Xbox has gotten most of its exclusives at PC gamers expense. Microsoft Game Studios has dropped most of it's PC franchises. Many games that used MSN Gaming Zone's lobby for multiplayer now have no support.

I have it. Bought it off Amazon 2 years ago for 7 dollars. Game has bugs but an underground community. If only more people got into the game.

Or any decent space sim for that matter

If you are serious about a space sim, and enjoy open ended gaming "ELITE" style, you need to check out the game that is about to be released by Egosoft called X3 Terran Conflict. It is the last game in their X-Universe series, and should be the best !

Their games are amazing.

Homeworld reminds me of Freespace

You had 1, Expansion then 2 and........ it just stopped.

Undoubtedly the best games in their genre and they havent spawned number 3 yet.

Personally, I believe the RTS-type (Using RTS loosely) market is saturated for at least the next 18 months. We have Starcraft 2, Dawn of War 2, Red Alert 3 coming in that time period and theres bound to be more that I havent mentioned. Some of us are still hooked up on CoH + OF, DoW1, WiC etc.

Despite how much I love Homeworld and would drool uncontrollably displaying Homeworld 3 on my 42" HDTV @ 1080i (cant do p) with max AA, AF and Transparency AA... I dont think theres room over the next year and a half at the very least.

Who cares about the Sins AI? The real Sins of a Solar Empire game is online multiplayer.

This is my theory....this is probably a bad comparison but you never know....

Look at the film industry today. You have all these producers going back and reviving old movies. Doing remake after remake, and frankly, almost the majority is crap, but there are a few gems in there (Batman).

My hope is, this occurs with PC Gaming. We're sort of seeing this already, StarCraft, Diablo.. well, at least Blizzard is doing it. With the way graphics have developed considerably in the last 10 years, I think, as a developer, it is a great idea to go back and remake those awesome game from the 90s and apply new engines to it (LIKE X-WING VS TIE FIGHTER OR HOMEWORLD) and come up with GOLD!

But, who knows, those are my wishes :)

I can understand that, but in my opinion Homeworld was nothing like SC2 or Red Alert where you have a stationary base. Yes the mothership moves very slowly, but it can move and the non-linear use of space is what sets it apart IMHO. In all those games you listed, you have ground and air assets and they can only move on the X & Y axis. Homeworld's ability to use the Z axis is what sets it apart and allowed it to capture my attention for so long.

I know how you feel. Its unique and fantastic....

But in reality, it competes against other RTSes in the marketplace and I dont think theres room for one more considering the monumental releases due.

How did Homeworld use space nonlinearly? Seems pretty linear to me, even it it's in 3 dimensions.

I think I would jizz my pants if Homeworld was remade with X3-quality graphics. And can you imagine flying one of the ships in battle? Battlecruisers would be fucking scary.

Unfortunately, all these movies are being remade, but the people involved can't help altering it so as to lose what made the original special. That's one thing I would like not to happen with PC Gaming.

Fallout 3 is what happens when a company focused on mass-market watered-down tripe buys the license to a cherished classic.

Is it too much to ask that a company remakes X-Com, or Tie Fighter, without making them first-person horror shooters or epic-scale RTS games?
