remote desktop is somewhat finicky.

if you have a app open that won't close without user input you won't be able to log onto that machine remotely.

for eg. if you have notepad open and added content without saving, then when you try to remote desktop in, it won't allow you to log on because the user that is logged in has to log out.

the answer is get something like winconnect XP which allows multiple users to log into a winxp pro machine OR install a server version of windows which also has that functionality built in.

last week. I have my desktop hooked up to the stereo, and I remote desktop to it using the wireless laptop when I'm on the porch.

Wow. I thought this was a basic restriction of Windows.

Strange. I know that I used to be able to log in, and it would make the local user inactive (though not fully logged-out).

Now it refuses to let me log in:
The client could not connect. You are already connected to the console of this computer. A new console session could not be established.

I used to be able to boot any user if I logged-in as an Admin, even remotely

sounds like you are logged in and have an app or service that won't allow you to log that user out.

did you install anything new recently?

Right now. Accounting software "lost" it's user license so people can't get into the application. Trying to figure out what's up. Logged into the server from home.

I don't think that I installed anything recently. I'm able to log out or use Fast User Switching if I do it locally :-/

I have a feeling that this has something to do with Windows crawling the network for shares, and associating itself in some way that the server thinks I am already using terminal services.
