We use 3.5 discs on the CNC mill at work, for transferring programs to the machine. It has a USB setup, but they claim it isn't reliable.

I recently built myself a new computer (core i7). It was the first time I build one without a floppy drive. It actually felt weird. Normally I end up using one to at least load a few drivers such as the sata controller, but everything worked without needing to do that.

I kinda miss the first time I started using computers and found a few floppies that I could store stuff on, and eventually bought some. The concept of putting a file on it and bringing it to another computer was awesome. Now it's just taken so much for granted and without a second thought. Heck, I can probably transfer a file to my online server faster than it would take to put that file on a floppy. o_O
