When's AMD getting faster?

I'm thinking about upgrading some things and am wondering if anyone knows whats in the pipeline for AMD, and when processors faster than the 1200's might be coming out. I hate to buy something new and shortly after, something better is released.

Palomino(sp?) is going to be released sometime in Q1 2001 I think. Not sure what it will debut at, but it will be faster than 1.2 GHz. Also heard a rumor here that it doesn't need a fan. That would be cool(literally 🙂)

The 133Mhz fsb chips are due out in the 1Q 2001. That and either the KT133A or DDR chipsets will give a boost.

Deeko, have you heard any information on how AMD is going to be able to run the Palominos without a fan? I have looked for information and the only thing I have found, which is unconfirmed, is a different type of silicon produced by
Isonics.

jjsole, have you seen Anand's review of the AMD roadmap ?

AMD is using the isotopically pure silicon apperntly...I don't know if it lets them run without a fan but it's alot cooler than the current athlons.

Following our report last week that AMD was experimenting with a new pure form of silicon (later confirmed by AMD Zone), news reaches The Reg of Chimpzilla's progress with the upcoming Palomino.

A new natural substance that disspates heat much better than ceramics is being tested and a Palomino prototype is reported to be running in AMD's Fab25 in Austin at 1.5GHz with a simple passive heatsink.

Details of temperatures have yet to leak, but the test chip is said to use aluminium, rather than copper interconnects.

Wondering what software you're running that you need a cpu faster than 1.2? Or you just need a few more fps on your game?

I only have 800mhz and a cable modem and i'm darn happy with it + 384meg RAM.

I dont think anyone using 1.2+ is really in need of that CPU speed. I guess it is based on the human failing of pride. The &quot;I have the best&quot; syndrome. I myself suffer form the disease and am currently getting treatment 😉

Its for a stock trading program (Investor rt) that crunches numbers all day. Faster is much better for what I'm doing, Although the overall speed involves the ram and hd of course too. It has nothing to do with pride for the latest stuff, maybe a little greed but not pride....😉

Try I only have that board cause it was the only one available in the short amount of time. I shall be upgrading to an Asus when the next computer show comes around.....Save you wise remarks for elsewhere. 🙂
