When'd you get your first car?

I haven't gotten one yet. I just got my license yesterday (turned 16 years, 3 months on 5/23). I'm really gonna work my ass off this summer to try to afford one. And if I add everything up and still can't afford, I guess the car'll have to wait 'til I can afford it...

What about you guys?

April 4, 1995 delivery day for my 95 Rodeo when I was 16. I fell in love with it while it was on the lot so I worked pretty damned hard while in HS... 7 days a week part time and came up with a good portion for it. I was pissed when my dad wouldn't let me drive it off the lot though. 😉 SUVs weren't that popular back then and I got some good looks in the HS parking lot. Hell I got some good times with it freshman year in college when practically nobody else had a car. Mmm Buffalo winters. Still have it today... can't let it go.

1978 Chevy Malibu Classic
2 door, 305 small block.

I added a Holley 4 bbl, high rise intake, cam, headers, and duals. I miss that car. It had a front bench seat and I still remember the look on my girlfriend's dad's face when he passed us going the other way and she was right in the middle with my arm around here. 🙂

In 1997 right after I turned 16, I got a Dodge 600 convertible as my first car. It was pretty fun and pretty nice-looking, albeit slow. I can't complain, because my dad paid for it and the insurance (and the gas, for that matter). Unfortunately he borrowed it and wrecked it about two years later. The good news is that I got upgraded to a '99 Ranger for my college car 🙂

September 2001 I was only 15 but bought a 1989 Camaro Iroc-Z. It was only the 305 with an auto because my parents wouldn't let me drive a manual or a 350 for my first car. I put a ton of money into that thing and then sold it.

Picked up a 2000 Trans Am WS6 when I was 19. Only did exhaust on that one.

Bought a 2002 Corvette Z06 when I was 21. I'm 23 now. Can't afford to modify the damn thing!

Don't get into "nice" or "fast" cars...they are addicting and fucking expensive!

I think it was around 2001 and I was 18. The car was an 87 Merkur xR4Ti. It was beat to hell and only cost $800. Didn't last long and my brother ended up dropping a 302 V8 in it. The car was cursed though and had problems galore, even caught on fire once. My second car was an 87 Toyota Supra (Non-turbo). It was a nice car and lasted me till I was out of college when I got my current 06 Mazda 3s.

1974 Opel Manta, got it when I was 14 for 250 bux. My father and I reworked it...was a great car it was totaled going to a wrestling match.

1988 Nissan stanza back in 2002. i remember being in the back seat when my mom first bought the car back in 89 and driving it home ( i was 3 ). she passed it on to my sister who then passed it on to me when i turned 16. my uncle's wife now uses it as their beater mobile. had power windows, locks and a whopping 88 horsepower @ 24 mpg. only problem w/ the car is that now the parts are very tough to find. the motor mounts are shot so theres a jerking motion when shifting gears. the engine eats a little bit of oil now too

I was 16, a 1993 Ford Explorer for $500. Had a ton of miles on it, but it was bought for me so whatever. I actually had fun with it, me and some friends gave it sophomore status since it was older than most of the freshmen.

Unfortunately, the car just had so much wrong with it that we ended up selling it by parts (actually made a profit that way lol). I've been carless since 17/18 (I'm now 19) but it isn't a big deal.

I inherited my grandmother's car in 2006 when she died. I was 23 at the time.

It's a 92 Honda Accord EX-R sedan; had 118,000 km at the time. Currently at 134,000 km.

What I forgot to mention is that after a bunch of money on repairs in 6 months I sold the car and borrowed my mom's for a couple of years. Worked out much, much better. I'd urge nobody to buy a car until they need to, they are cash pits.

In 1994 I got a red 1991 Nissan X-Cab pickup, I was 17 at the time. $8000 but loan was on my parents, though I paid the monthly payment, insurance and gas.

1997 Toyota 4runner SR5 in 1997. I was 22 and fresh out of college. I gave it to my sister in 2000 when I bought my second car. She drove it couple of years til she married and had kids. She bought a larger SUV and gave the 4runner to her brother-in-law who's driving it. Currently over 200k miles and going strong. Hopefully it will be returned to me in the future.

1971 buick skylark when i was 15. little rusty but the small block buick would burn the tires for as long as you cared to give it gas.

I bought my first car with my own hard earned money with I was 14. It was a 1951 Chevy 4 door sedan. I drove it like a stolen four wheel drive all over the countryside. When the engine blew I shoved it into the river and bought a 1950 Pontiac with a straight eight that I continued to do the same thing with. Cars were a dime a dozen back then.
