when you're towing a boat on an interstate

I drive on I-5 quite often and I see a lot of people towing their boats and such and driving faster than I do. This goes dumb people that drive lifted F350s (I mean, lifted pretty high) at 90+? I sometime wish all these a$$wipes get busted by cops whenever they speed so they'd not waste our resources like that. You got money for a nice boat + truck? More power to you, but please don't endanger your fellow drivers by driving so fast.

That could be applied to anyone that drives like a maniac, as well. But I couldn't agree with you more.

I have seen people drive 90+ in their excursions.

I remember seeing a cop hiding behind an overpass and pulled over 2 sorority girls in a jeep wrangler going 85 (speed limit is 70). Maybe they're just unlucky.

dont alot of the auto manufacture recommend that when you are towing that you should go around 55mph? I know tons of times taking the the highway to my girlfriend house or to work, I see people doing 75mph+ while towing somethen. If they had to stop in a hurry, there going to rear end someone and there trailer going tobe somewere else.

I hate I-5.... I mean...I drive 80-90 on it when I'm going somewhere but I've got a good enough car that can handle that.

What I hate is the damn trucks that will pull out in front of you to pass another truck (there are only 2 lanes mostly for those who don't know). Then they pass the other truck at like .00005 MPH faster than the slower truck is going and it takes no less than 2 years for them to get the hell out of the way.

yep, KE = 1/2 *m*v^2, velocity is squared.

aerodynamic drag is also a cubed term, 10mph makes quite a big difference.

hahaha.

Usually I find the truckers on I-5 to be pretty decent. but then I don't drive fast at all (70mph to safe gas 😀)

When I pass the trucks though I do speed up to the fast lane speed, so people won't get pissed off.

Actually...my car gets better mileage at 80MPH than 70MPH

Oh..and I wouldn't care if the trucks were driving a decent speed...but they go like 60MPH though.

Thats probably because your driving on your peak torque curve. If you were to or if everybody was to drive at their peak torque curve, we would all get much much better mileage.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and this varies by state, but in Michigan where I live and other places I'm sure the law says vehicles that are towing are not to exceed 55.

I was just in California and you people cannot drive so stop your whining. I was going over the Grapevine and I could not believe how stupid Californians are on hills....AND THEY DRIVE THEM EVERYDAY. I was driving a truck, pulling my 16' lowboy trailer, and I had to keep passing all the idiots because they were RIDING THEIR FVCKING BRAKES down the 20 mile long hill like a bunch of fools. Haven't any of you heard of using your gears? I hardly hit the brake the entire stretch but used my gears alot and I had to pass all the dumbasses in cars going too slow. It was funny being the guy from the flat state of Texas being one of the only people on the entire road who actually knew how to drive on the damn hill.

If you have a decent tow vehicle driving 75 or so with a trailer isn't a problem. In fact it is completely stupid that CA limits you to 55 with a trailer legally. I just got out of CA (thank God) and don't have to deal with that BS anymore.....HAHA!

Way to generalize, calling people names makes you feel smarter huh?

Yep, you're not supposed to go over 55 in CA either.

You realize you OP contains both generalizations and put-downs, right?

Pot meet kettle.

I'm pointing out that a decent amount of SUV/Truck drivers drive at unsafe speeds, how is that generalization? Put-downs, I'll give you that.

Yet Ronstang is insulting the people of the entire State of California.

So why do you only hate speeders in large vehicles?

Because large vehicles are not as safe at higher speeds and are more likely to tip over and they're not meant to be driven that fast?

It'd take a civic going 100+ to piss me off compared to a 6" lifted F350 going 90.

You should have left sooner.

My dad's a trucker, and for every one time he passes another truck he probably gets about 30 asshats in civics switching lanes three feet in front of him.

Exactly, I cant stand these nascar fans in their huge trucks that think they can drive like Dale Earnheart because they've got a #3 stuck to the back of thier truck.

I don't have a problem with someone in an F350 hauling ass pulling a boat, better them keeping up with traffic than slowing everyone down.

Have you ever driven an F350 or F250? They're built to haul and they're steady as a rock at speed...

you should see the fools in SF. they can't climb hills or go down hills correctly!!

ps, NY drivers suck just as much! 😛

how about the dumbasses who tow a 5th wheel trailer AND a boat behind the 5th wheel? In my opinion that should be illegal.

There is a thing called the right lane, which is meant for slower traffic.

Higher CM (center of mass), more likely to flip in emergency avoidance maneuver, no? The more you town, the harder it is for you to stop, especially when you're following another vehicle with only about 30' of space.
