when you're doing pushups, what % of your body weight are you "benching"?

i weigh +- 165 and bench 70lbs... i could do more but ive found that for now 70 allows me to do a good ammount of reps and not be totally wrecked at the end, but its no walk in the park either... i'd say start out with 40lbs and if it gets too easy go up in 5's but if you dont work out a lot its a good idea to start small and move up slowly.

thats bs man... 70% of my body weight would be around 120lbs and theres no way i could do more than a rep or two benching that much... and im pretty ripped...

You should touch the floor with you chest or at least with your nose when you do a push up, a lot of people that says
they can do many push ups are not even close to the floor when they go down.

I guess it also depends on how you do the pushup. The farther down you go, the more difficult it is. Also, the slower you do them, the more difficult, since you're also holding your body weight.

I'm not an expert on pushups or benching, since I have some shoulder problems that prevent me from doing either very effectively, but that's what it seems like to me.

165 and can bench 70 lbs?? You must be pretty tall and thin if you think you're ripped....I'm 5' 8"..135 and i can bench 70-75...i'm not even close to being ripped. I can do 110...but only like one or two reps.

ALL MACHINES ARE DIFFERENT. one machine you may do 70lbs on somehting, go to different mach that does same exercise, you may do like 100lbs.
