When you were 12 years old, what couldn't you buy?

They don't rtust kids with anything anymore. When I was little I could get pretty much anything except firearms, cigarettes, and alcohol. Now kids are restricted from buying paint, matches, knives, markers, hell, white-out at some places. I personally think it's pretty damn stupid. My childhood would have been a lot more boring without a lot of those things.

I agree, but one thing that really blew my mind is I couldnt buy a firearm, but they would let me buy the ammo for one

I was once turned down buying fireworks when I was 9. It was the year that they made the age limit for them 12 here in Oregon. I lied to the cashier and said I was 12, she turned to the person next in line and said "Do you think he's 12??", he just shrugged.

Then she said "Nah, I don't think so" and took my package of fireworks. :( It was traumatic.. lol.

Other than that, I've never been declined. I used to buy propane tanks for my torch, gasoline, glue, paint...

That was in the early-mid 90s, heh.

I remember not being able to buy a lighter on July 3, when I was about 11 or 12. I could buy all the fireworks I wanted but not a lighter to light them with. We finally got my friends uncle to buy us one, his parents would have done it but they weren't around.

not much as I didn't have a job back then, so I didn't have much money ... though I never had problems buying fireworks, matches, paint, etc .. never really bought alcohol until i was 17 .. and even then I almost never got/get carded.

If I wanted something I could get it from somewhere. Hell, I could get a dirty magazine at the local liquor store.

The grocery store in my town wouldn't sell us spray whipped cream, because they thought we were going to get high off the can.

when i was 12 most of my friends had .22 rifles, my parents were strict, we had to wait until we were 16, then i got a Ruger .22 carbine and a 12 gauge single shotgun

the time/place i grew up , there were very few restrictions and most could be worked around if necessary

I grew up out in the country and I could ride my bike to the hardware store and buy .22 shells for my rifle, but if I wanted BB's for my BB gun my dad had to go with me to purchase them. Go figure.

I used to be able to buy anything I wanted when I was 12. Marlboro Reds in a box were .35 a pack at the time.

Alcohol. When I was 12, I was able to get my hands on whatever else I wanted (including drugs, porn, cigarettes, guns, whatever).

Now it seems like everything is reversed. I can't seem to find any cheap guns and I canf find any drugs when I need them *sigh*.

someone being 12 could be today or over 50 years ago :)

most of the restrictions today are due to parents not being parents, hell half the time parents are helping their kids be trouble makers.

There was an incident here in my town (Polo / Horse area) where 60 kids and parents were pounding on the glass to a jewelry shop to set the alarm off repeatedly....when police showed up some parents 'fancied themselves as attorneys' and attempted to tell the police it was public property outside the shop....needless to say before any arrests were made the 'mob' dispersed.

Now that explains it all.
