Do you --

go to wikipedia and search for it...

OR

type in.. (for example I want to look up Mets star Carlos Beltran)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Beltran

and hope it works (I'd say that 90% of the time it does, some times it doesn't due to a disambiguation, two terms meaning one thing, etc.

Sometimes I'll just google it, and its usually like 3-4th on google anyway.

Since google is my homepage.

Me too. Google, then look for Wiki.

I use google and typically skip wikipedia entries. They tend to be short and generalized.

Use google and add wiki to the search because I'm to lazy to type out all of wikipedia.

Google first, and then wiki. Most often a wiki entry is high on the Google search list anyway....

Me too.

I do that because my spelling isn't the best, and google's search engine seems to catch my drift better than wikipedia's.

Yeah, I can't spell at all. Google's "Did you mean this?" feature helps me a lot.

I type "w <TITLE>", because I configured a custom search in Opera and bound it to the letter w. It is the equivalent of opening a WP page, entering something in the search box, and clicking "Go".

If you ever edit Wikipedia articles, this quickly becomes very handy. When I am actually looking for information on a topic, I typically use Google.

Wikipedia has two search-like modes: "Go", which just tries to go to the page with exactly the name you typed (context sensitive-ish), and "Search", which searches through an index of the SQL database for your search terms and returns several results. If "Go" fails to find anything, it falls back to "Search".

Go works well enough assuming you spelled it correctly and matched the case used by the article you want (or that you're different in a common enough way that the redirect already exists). Search is not great.

Is it wrong that this comment made me laugh... does anyone who has a computer ever go to the library anymore?
