When you use a computer...

Do you prefer ease of use or flexibility at your disposal?

Ie, Would you find it quicker and better for you if you used the GUI vs the command line?

Mind you, some folks here find the command line pretty easy to use so we do have a distorted perception on a few things 😉

I use GUI for some things and CLI for others. But your options in the poll doesn't make sense. Ease of use could be GUI or CLI, and both could also be flexable.

There is no "both" option.

I dont want a 72 character command to play a DVD, but I want to be able to have total control over how it plays and what it does.

Both have their uses.

For day-to-day tasks nothing beats the GUI. But once you tread into Administration territory the CLI becomes extremely useful.

It's not distorted at all, the two aren't mutually exclusive. IMO flexibility creates ease of use. The fact that I can use the cli to automate, tab complete, etc things makes my computer easier to use.

People tend to whine about having to memorize commands but the truth is that you end up having to learn how to use the thing whether it's text or graphical. With one you're having to remember what to type and the other you're having to remember where to click, the latter is easier to stumble around in and find your way but it's also harder to automate and describe over the phone to someone. Back when I actually used Windows I was using keyboard shortcuts most of the time anyway because it's simply faster, taking my hands off of the keyboard to use the mouse is annoying and just slows me down.

Depends on your workflow, obviously I do use X but the only thing that I use consistently that works better with a GUI for my day to day stuff is a web browser. The rest of my stuff (irc, email, torrents, etc) are all text and I wouldn't have it any other way. I even play videos with mplayer via the CLI because it's quicker to fill in the path that way.
