Incidentally, having a 1 billion person population pretty much means that even if the percentage of people in the country are in X group is 1/4 of the percentage in America (X being a group such as computer programmers, geniuses, etc), the actual number of them will be about the same (presuming an American population of about a quarter billion).
I.e., if 1% of the Indian population rates as Genius, and 3% of Americans do, then that means 10 million Indians are geniuses, and 7.5 million Americans are, so even though a higher percentage of Americans are geniuses, Indians APPEAR to have more overall. Sheer volume is often able to make up for lower percentages, as Wal*Mart finds daily.
And please don't flame me for using that as an example, I don't have any numbers, I picked the first one I noticed in the other post and used it.
