Maybe take the hint that they don't want to talk to you?

I'm not looking for a conversation. I'm just being nice. I'm a nice guy and I like to say hello to people and smile.

I hate grumps and mean people.

:(
Howdy!

Try moving south, I love to see people from the north get all flustered walking down the streets here. Lots of people say hi and they aren't used to it. :)

Working with people every day.... yes people in the south are more friendly.... I lived in TX for a year and it was a huge difference.

Well, it can vary a lot even in the south. Walk downtown Dallas, then walk downtown Ft. Worth, night and day difference.

This is why I never say hello unless some one says it to me first.

why be so afraid of rejection? so what if they don't say it back? their problem.

I don't think anyone is really rejecting you when they don't say hello, at least not usually. Often times, they just don't hear me. And then I'm standing there like a dumbass.

Also, I'm not good at remembering names. And "Hello! ...You!" doesn't sound right when I say it outloud.
"hello you" can be nice. just say it in a sexy voice. :D

I'll always respond with at least hello. It bugs me when I don't remember the other persons name after they greet me by mine. Usually this only happens with someone I haven't talked to in a long while or a random acquaintance. It's obvious when someone doesn't remember your name, so I try to avoid do such!
