you play it faithfully by the simple-to-master basic strategy do you have edge over the house? if so how much? it's like miniscule 2% or something right? or does house still have edge?

The house always has the edge.

The lowest odds for the casino also include proper betting strategy. Like already said to get the odds in your favor you count cards and bet properly.

You can have the edge at times, depending on the composition of the deck and the count. Doesn't matter if you don't alter your bets according to the count. Unless you master several things, the house will always have the edge. Let's say a player sits down at a $5 table and bets $5 everytime. Over time the house edge will grind out his bank.

To succeed, you must:
1. Play perfect basic strategy. I mean perfect, no hunch plays, etc. Example, if basic strategy says you hit a 15 against a dealer's 10 up card, you can never just guess that the dealer has a small card in the hole. Over time you will lose more playing that way.

2. You must be able to keep a perfect running count.

3. You must alter your bets acording to the count.

4. You must know when to get away from the table. <----That one is the death of most players.

5. Must be sober at all times.

6. You must manage your money with set objective for wins and losses. If you take $500 to a table and your objective is to double it. You must leave once that happens. If you are losing, you must have a loss limit for that session and when you're there, you gotta walk away.

There are people who make their living entirely by playing blackjack. They have to be disciplined and have mastered all of the above. I know a couple such people. Few people possess what it takes.

You never have an edge hand for hand...but playing perfect reduces the house advantage to almost nothing. Like others have said, if you master counting you can walk away with money at the end of the day/week/whatever. You shouldn't view it as having an advantage over the house however...hand by hand, the house still has the advantage. You can just exploit certain fluctuations in order to minimize losses and maximize gains to achieve a net profit over time.

Even if you know how to count cards your odds are still about 51/49.
Sadly thats the absolute best you can get in a casino.

Not all games are against the house.

Which is what I just said.

Roulette for the best odds, last time I went I spent a good while simply betting either black/red or even/odd. black/red is slightly less than 50/50 I think due to the 2 green slots on the wheel. If you bet even odd you can do pretty well. Yes it's all luck, but with 50/50 odds on that you can get lucky pretty easy and win. Also Indian casinos in Cali, a lot have War. Never played it but you basically buy a whole deck of card and play War with the dealer, odds would have to be 50/50 here also.

I'm pretty sure you're misunderstanding. Let me rephrase, saying the exact same thing, but hopefully with more clarity: there are games where your opponent is not the house.

I believe slot machines have the best house odds over all games.

No they don't, slot machines are awful. That's why they take up so much space at the casino because they're the biggest cash cows for them. Tourists like machines like that and many are spooked by table games. You want to know how a casino operates and what has the best odds? Watch the travel channel. They have tons of casino shows.

I think you restated exactly what he said--"best house odds". He meant best odds for the house.

only because people play it stupidly. If you bet only even or odd every time, you might only win 1:1 which isn't a great return but you have a 50% chance every time the wheel spins. No other game in Vegas give you a coin flip chance of winning. If you give me $200, I might not come out rich but I can play all night. What gives the house the odds are people who bet numbers, then it becomes a total ass raping for the house :)

As said already, yes if you count cards. I know someone that's kicked out of all casinos he's been in because he knows how to count cards. He makes a living off playing partypoker.

This. It may be slight (depends on the game), but in the long run the house always has the advantage.

The only way to win at casinos is to quit while you're ahead. Either that or cheat. :D

You have an 18/38 chance of winning if you're betting even or odd, which is horrible at a >5% house edge. I think craps and blackjack give the player the best odds when played correctly.

Also, I believe there's some video poker machines where the player actually has an edge over the house if played perfectly. But the edge is so miniscule, and so much of the EV is dependent on when you eventually hit the Royal Flush, no player could count on playing it to make any kind of real money.

Isn't the best bet the Odds bet on Craps? I cant be sure but I thought that usually paid true odds unless the house changes the rules
