I'm surprised we dont have a base on the Moon by now.Seems like it would be way easier to launch from there to go to say Mars , than from Earth.Course what do I know,I'm just a tax payer .

It would be easier to launch from an orbiting station that a moonbase (though the orbiting station would likely use the resources of a moon base).
