When you get an oil change is there any reason for the tech to go into your trunk?

I had a coupon for a free oil change at a fairly respectable and well known station, so I decided to take advantage of it today.

When I get my car back I notice a few things...

1. Someone was in my trunk. I keep a few things things placed (and secured) in specific locations just so I know if anyone has been in there.

2. The trunk that previously was set to only open with the key, can now be opened from the latch inside the car by the drivers door.

3. I set the latches in the trunk so that you can't access the trunk from the rear seats. Those latches were pulled down. You can access the trunk from the inside of the car.

Now why do you think all this was necessary for an oil change?

The work order has my address on it, so now I gotta worry about some punk ass kid trying to steal my stereo equipment.

What a great way to start the weekend...

do they also vacuum out your car? some oil change places vacuum, maybe they just opened it up to clean?

They do that around here, and I have had them ask if they could clean out the trunk - but they have never taken the initiative to do so unless they have my permission.

If they are doing a thorough LOF (lube, oil, filter), then they would be checking all fluids and tire pressures, to include the fluid for your rear windshield wiper and the pressure in your spare tire.

My car is pretty clean, but I can tell they did not vacuum.

Not that this matters much, but I also heard someone set off my alarm. They were probably checking to see if I did infact have an alarm. The alarm was not set when I dropped it off, so there was so reason for it to go off unless they set it on their own.

Borderline Paranoid? Do you put a hair on your mouse to see if someone has touched it when you get back?

I've had my car broken into twice and had about $8,000 in equipment stolen. Yes I'm a little more cautious than I was before.

Do you see any blood spots? They may have used your car to dump a body.

Maybe they were going in there to get your wheel lock key (that's where I keep mine) to check the brake pads?

Usually not something they do for a freebie oil change but just throwing out the possibilities.

Orr....maybe they're just going through your Christmas shopping and taking what they like. :D

They probably installed a tracking device so the black helicopters can find you easier when they need to.

I went to a drive through oil change place and they were checking the trunks of the people infront of me with them in the car. I figured it was for a wheel lock but the spare tire sounds right.
