When you first eat something, does your jaw clench?

Does this happen to other people too? I get it from my mom's side. My mom has it and her father has it. I think my aunt might get it too. I don't know if it is common in other people though.

clench, as in "lock up?" no. my jaw only gets sore when i chew something hard (like a lot of unpopped popcorn kernels) and my jaws go into overdrive.

That's what it was like when my family first talked about it. Someone brought it up randomly and everybody else was like "me too!" Until then, none of us knew the others had that happen. It is the sort of thing that if you had it, you would know.

Do you mean your jaw pops? B/c clenching doens't sound right.

When you clench, your mouth is shut....so yeah doesn't everyone's jaw close?

No. It is just that first taste of food after a while. When I sit down to dinner, it happens on the first bite then it is fine the rest of the meal.

Can you explain what clenching your jaw means? Do you mean that you just bite down real hard or something?

Hold out your hand. Slowly make a fist; hold the fist gently.

Now do it as hard as you can.

One is clenching, one is not.

it happens to mean on occasion, especially if I have'nt eaten for a few hours and I bite into something with a really sharp/strong flavor (citrus fruits, bbq sauce, grapes, etc..)
