Out of the last 15 or so restaurants I've been to, honestly only one server at this particular restaurant prepped it for us. Others are either too busy or lazy to do it when asked to. I've tipped accordingly.

This is both asian and caucasian restaurants.

it's funny. I too have noticed this lately. When I was younger they never gave you the container.. lately thats all that i've seen.

probably its a safeguard for lawsuits in this litigious society we live in.

most places will take the plates into the kitchen and package it for you.

but if you just ask for a container they will bring that out for you as well.

Hey give me the containers, I'll do it myself. That way my Kung Pow (HomeAppraiser likes his chicken spicy) does not get mixed in with my wifes sweet & sour! National chain places like Outback Steakhouse and Olive Garden always box the leftovers for you.

I'd rather do it myself.

Lord only knows that they do to your food back there in the kitchen. For all you know, they may have just been picking their nose or holding their schlong in the restroom before they came out. And you want them touching your food?! :disgust: Fvck that.

I'm a big boy. I'll do it myself, thanks.

When I was a server, if I knew they were junk tippers, or if they gave me attitude, I'd let them pack it themselves.

if I'm only getting 10%, you can pack your own food, cheapass

this happened very rarely though

Yea, because no one got the opportunity to touch it before it came to your table in the first place :disgust:

Man I must be tired.

Took me at least five seconds of confusion to figure out that "server" in this context was related to the restaurant variety.

I was thinking... WTF is this some kind of joke on Windows 2003 or some new HP server out there?

must....sleep...

Hmm, from recent memory the past two times they've packed it for me, but these are Chinese restaurants that are a cut above normal though.

Depends on where you go. More expensive restaurants do it for you. Cheaper ones don't.

It's 50/50. I don't really care. I really don't care for the server to be sticking his hands in my 1/2 eaten food when he's been doing the same for everyone else.

I remember most Chinese restaurants I go to package it for you. I don't eat expensive either. Now the cheap places... definitely not, but most average places did for me... Now I almost never have leftovers at a western place since you order by plates anyways and I wouldn't be eating family style like at Asian restaurants. But from what I remember of my friends, they always package it for us...

I gotta step away from the computer a bit. At first glance, I thought you were using some obscure language to refer to a Gzipped backup:p

In my opinion packing someone's scrap leftovers shouldnt be a servers job. To "Tip accordingly" in this situation is wrong.

YUCK! I have worked in a restaurant for years, I do not want to be that close to anyones food after that have either touched or ate it. Gross. That goes double when I eat out. I box my own, no thanks to those fancy little swans.
