When you are going to steal an election....the first thing you have to do is discredit the polls.

Just sayin...

"Discredit"? I don't think you're going to have much success in discrediting polling companies that have been in that business for decades, are using sound mathematical modeling, and are generally quite close in their predictions.

Speaking of which, 538 blog I just checked is now 83.9 % chance Obama win. Romney is likely to get trounced. Couldn't happen to a nicer prick, though it is a shame we're stuck with four more years of Obama.

Was just clicking on the link in the OP and.......

Not hard to discredit that which is based on statistics. After all, 99% of statistics are made up.

I thought the first thing you do is round up and execute the opposition? We live in gentler times I guess.

I don't think that's what all the Republican arguments about "biased" polls are all about. For one thing, people who aren't good at math will easily buy that the polls were wrong...discrediting them would be an unnecessary step in stealing an election. For another thing, "stealing" an election is only practical when the polls are within the margin of error anyways. Forget people noticing the polls are different, people will eventually notice when a massive number of votes are miscounted or ignored or a ton of people are prevented from voting. And at the end of the day, I don't think enough Republicans (or anyone) would really work towards stealing an election.

The way some (but not all, by any measure) Republicans have lashed out at the polls really just seems more like an extension of their rejection of journalism and fact checkers. If it's saying something you don't like, it must be biased. After all, YOUR understanding of the issue can't possibly be wrong ;)

Also, most people don't really understand statistics or polling. The argument that polls are "oversampling" Democrats sounds very credible to a lot of people, I'm sure.
