When would somebody be labeled an alcoholic in your opinion?

My brother-in-law drinks at least an 18 pack of beer EVERY NIGHT, and has done it for most of his life. (He's 54)...IMO, that makes him an alcoholic...If you drink every day, a 6 pack, 12 pack, more than a couple of shots, etc, then you're probably an alcoholic, whether you admit it or not. You don't have to be a drunk to be an alcoholic...but it helps...

My brother's typical goes kind of like this: -

a.) Get out of bed.

b.) Spew vomit and bile from the day before down his toilet.

c.) Open a can of beer.

d.) Repeat previous step ad nauseum.

e.) Go to bed.

f.) Repeat from step a.

He cannot wake up without having some beer, IMO that is an alcoholic.

I think he qualifies :Q

me. But not in the For Real definition. But I do go to the pub every single night basically. At least 5 nights a week. I don't get hammered, but I do get buzzed. I spend a ton on alcohol. And it's all since I moved from my old town where I never used to drink much, but I did do everything else. I kinda gave up pills and such for alcohol. I definitely know people x10 worse than me, but then again when you look at most normal people I drink a LOT.

<--- finishes his New Castle atm.

When it changes your life; IE living around drinking or drinking is causing problems with other aspects of your life.

Sometimes I'll go a couple weeks where I drink often...and often times alone or sometimes even before I go to work. I never get drunk...always moderately buzzed...like having 2-3 drinks...and then having 2-3 more drinks after 3-4 hours...

But then I will just completely stop drinking for several weeks at a time with no problem...I don't know...I should be careful though.

when you drink for no reason other than to get drunk, when you can't get away from the drink, or when the drinking affects your life.

If you drink alone alot, can't drink in moderation, pass out regularely, are disrupting your life or the lives of others, are in denial and are hiding it, and/or are a bad drunk.

I wouldn't place a number on the drinks, but when drinking alters yourlife to the point that it changes your behavior when your not drinking, thats an alcoholic.

..yup..and needs an eye opener every morning to take the edge off a hangover. The lone drinker is especialy troublesome. Intervention is the only hope. Problem is they're hard to identify. Many aren't the falling down drunk most people expect. They function in society..hold down jobs but drink to the point of failure (liver). When they start vomiting blood from varicosed esophagus..time is short.

hmm i drink alone alot. heck about 80% of the beer i consume is sitting at home watching TV or playing video games and i can damn guarantee you i am not a alcoholic.

that alone does not classify someone as one. Is someone who drinks a needs to drink daily.

heck the guy diagonally across the street is a great example. he works at a bar. After work he sits and drinks. usually comes home drunk and drinks more. The other day the kids next door to him came over to ask for my help. he had passed out in his car with the door open. they were afraid he was dead. i went over and he stunk. he had puked all over the car. i smacked him and woke him up. he said he was fine and walked inside. i went with him to make sure he got in.

well his house stunk. it was full of empty box's of beer. the 30 packs of high life.

this is someone i consider a alcoholic.

Have you ever thought about Cutting back on your drinking?
Do you get Angry when people confront you about your drinking?
Do you feel Guilty about how much/often you drink?
Do you need an Eye-opener in the morning?

When someone stays at the same bar long enough to be labelled because they can't stagger anymore....they are officially teh alcoholic.
