When would be the best time to move to C2D?

Buyers remorse will get you anyway. Such is the tech market. Don't sweat it too much and look for the price cuts starting in april.

Well ram prices are dropping and core 2 duo are going down also. I'd say as soon as Amd counters with a good cpu.

I wonder if AMD is a better bang for buck atm:
AMD X2 5400+ is 240?
AMD X2 5200+ is 194?
while
C2D 6400 is 199?
C2D 6600 is 280?

especially since C2D is getting more expensive while AMD had a huge price cut. Though since I worry about heat I would prefer C2D.

Get the 6600 for the extra 40 Euros, it will smoke the AMD offerings, particularly if you OC it. You could even get the 6400 and OC the crap out of it and whoop the AMD offerings: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2802&p=10

Yup, get a E6400 and with a little luck you can get 3.2Ghz, faster than a stock X6800 and easily beating an X2-5400+.
