When women get divorced is it normal to pick a completely random last name?

One of my aunts combined her maiden name with her married name to form a new last name when she got divorced. Linder + Belluomini = Bellinder. 😛

Does she have kids?

Me.

She's seperating from husband, parents...getting away from her past. Lots of blame going on there. You getting the new name also, or are you grown up and on the outside?

Just wondering. I hadn't heard of it before.

It's normal. It's their way of defining themselves. You have to understand their last name and their marital status defines their identity, followed only by how many decorative trinkets (kids) they have.

My mom was divorced for 25 years before she got remarried. She kept her married name the whole time and now hyphenates her old married name with her new one.

Don't ask. I have no idea.

I've never known anyone or or heard of anybody (among my group of friends/family) that took a completely random name in the divorce. Most go back to their maiden name. I was different and kept my married name (my ex was just fine with it and understood why I wanted to do so).

Bob, I would go with 'not normal'.

My step Dad took my Mom's maiden name as his last name when he married my Mom. That was some 20 or so years ago. They are one of the happiest couples I know.

Your name means nothing.

I've dated a lot of divorced chics.

Once they are married their idenity is their last name. Once that is gone they have no real identity, no self. So they invent the self by picking a last name that feels good.

Nah I'm out of the house. I'm mostly annoyed that now I have to make twice as many calls home lol.

And that's interesting spidey.

They both have an equal say actually. Which is how it should be.
