When will X1900XTs hit 7800GT prices?

I've been holding off building a new computer since November, and it's been painful. I currently have a Barton 2800+ with an eVGA 6600GT 128mb AGP and it still plays most of my games fine, but I want to be ready for Elderscrolls Oblivion when it comes out. I have to talk myself out of building a new rig almost weekly, which has been easy seeing how the 7800GTs have fallen about $60 in the last 3 months.

My question to you guys is, when do you see the X1900XTs selling for under $300? Also, do you see the CPU prices falling anytime soon? It seems like the CPU prices have actually went UP in the last 3 months, while video cards have went down.

Tell me what you would do if you were in my shoes. I have a 21" Sony CDP-G500 that does 2048x1536 at 85hz and the picture is absolutely amazing. I know I can hold off a few more months, but with the current market pricing do you think I will save a lot of money by waiting?

Thanks!

Not for a while.

AMD's S939 prices will probably drop when Socket AM2 CPUs come out (no firm date yet, probably within 6 months).

It seems like the CPU prices have actually went UP in the last 3 months, while video cards have went down.

Other than the S939 Opterons (which are now very much in demand but short in supply), prices have stayed about the same or dropped slightly.

IMHO, in six months the X1900XT might be at $400, it will take over a year to reach $290 prices. The 7800GTX really hasn't dropped in price even after three cards came out that offered superior performance - the X1800XT, the 512 GTX, and the new X1900XT(X).

The problem is ATI will probably come out with a X1900XL at say $449 retail and then the prices will drop over a year to $300 or so. And that will "prop up" the prices of the XT's. Be suprised to see them ever drop below $400.(Maybe the OEM version in a year or so).
