When will WIN XP SP3 be out?

I read 4 computer magazines a month. Three or four months ago I read that Service Pack 3 will be coming out for WINXP. I want to buy one good disc of WINXP PRO with SP3. I'm getting tired of using recovery discs.

Anyone know anything about a release date? Thanks.

After the release of Vista, most likely..

I'm sure Windows Vista is more of a priority over a Windows XP service pack.

Not until late 2007. Basically they won?t be working fully on it until after Vista ships.

I'm constantly amazed by some of the simple questions that could be answered by an obvious google search in 2 seconds instead of waiting around hours or days for a response on a message board.

No matter what forum you visit; at any given time or day - you will see this happen. I used to get fustrated but over the years, I've learned to just ignore those questions.

But in this case, Uberman is a newbie and it's completely understandable. Not everyone knows what Google is - let alone what a search engine does. Perhaps he did know what Google is and I can give him the benefit of doubt that he searched on Google and couldn't find the answer he was looking for.

Fair enough. Point taken. But even more annoying than reposts or posting simple questions instead of searching is these people that crap in threads and give others a hard time.

Don't like the thread, don't open it. There's plenty of us that don't mind answering simple questions and for some its better to have someone explain things to you than have to have to figure it out on your own and sort through information.

ps - SP3 will be out after Vista and like people said it's definitely not the priority.

I sure hope MS polishes Vista up nicely (and i mean more than just a visual polish) because it's such a pain to have to install weekly updates. I bet Microsoft can't wait to stop supporting XP altogether in 10 years! 😛

So, what the hell is the point of a message board then. Who cares, really? I'm sure if anyone searched hard enough, they could find anything on Google.

If nobody posted questions, then the message board would be dead; enough said.

So, is this simple question really enough to bother you that much? It at least had you curious enough to come in and post your two cents in. If you don't like the damn thread, keep the fvck out.

Thank you for your responses. I posted the question here for reason. There are a lot of bright people here who can probably give me a better answer. Releases of updates and new operating systems are constantly changing and there's a considerable amount disinformation out there. Rather than learning by rumor or disinformation I posted the question here.

I'm not exactly a newbie. I have not been here for seven years. I was a regular in the hot deals forum from 1997 to 1999. It was a wild time then, great deals, class-action lawsuits, and a lot of good information was exchanged. The moderators at that time were kept busy keeping coupon codes out of the forums. And yes, there were flame wars, many, it was almost like a battleground. If I was building a new system I could post the configuration and get good advice.

I have several machines running Windows 98 second edition. I have one machine running XP service pack two. Years ago you had to license XP so that if you reconfigured the machine it would no longer function, I mean the OS would no longer function. I thought that scheme was a recipe for disaster. Now I've been told that Windows XP service pack three will be a long time coming. I have two questions.

Do you have to register WINXP so I can no longer reconfigure to my heart's content? I've reinstalled Windows XP several times and have yet to register it.

If I buy a Windows XP PRO with service pack two and use that; Will I be able to upgrade that from a CD rather than through the Web?

When you go to the windows update page, the first thing it installs is a system validation file It's gonna give you problems if your copy of XP isn't registered. I had a copy of XP pro that failed validation, and updates wouldn't install until I did the phone activation. then it passed validation and all updates /downloads were available. Keep in mind, I have NEVER had MS tell that I couldnt activate a copy of XP. I registered with MS a year ago and belong to the Backroom forum at MS as a small systems builder. It doesn't hurt honest, and there is a ton of info available from the forums there.
