When will we see another decent Star Wars Simulator

I watched Episode 3 last night and had the urge to watch all of the old movies again so I went on a binge and watched them all and about halfway through Empire Strikes Back it hit me: we haven't seen a decent Star Wars Simulator in a long time.

All we keep seeing as PC Gamers are the same old FPS that have been re-vamped, and I'm wondering if anyone knows when or if there's something out there like the awesome games such as Rogue Squadron or X-Wing. I'm not talking about something as complex as MS Flight Sim 2004 or X but something like X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, cept with upgraded graphics. Anyone have a clue?

freespace 2 was the last good space fighter flight sim. seems like the genre is dead. there are some very good mods to freespace 2 out there, however.

I remember spending HOURS on X-Wing and Tie Fighter. I used to love flying the A-Wing around. That puppy was so sweet and fast.

I don't know...I'm dying and waiting! Rogue Squadron Series for Gamecube was pretty incredible...what I want to see is a new starwars FPS on the wii with LIGHTSABER ACTIONS! zOMG.

I miss the Tie Defender and Missile Boat. God those were over powered.

Also nothing like balancing your shields and dumping all the weapons power into them after getting straffed.

That's a shame, cause those games def rocked. It does seem dead b/c the only sim that comes out now is flight sim by ms and that's just flying around. The 3rd party games come out but those are just crap.

You forget Independance War II

That game was great fun, and played with newtonian physics, right down to planets having gravity.

IW2 doesn't count for that exact reason, it's not a space sim. Real sims don't have Newtonian physics(and yes, I'm aware of the irony of that statement).

Freespace 2 was the swan song of the genre; it had perfect dogfighting and it made capital ships matter.
