When will we get a result?

Obviously it took a while to get the 2000 vote. But what _if_ things aren't as close. What time did results come back in '92 and '96? By results coming in I mean concensus among the news agencies, maybe two or three networks coming out and declaring a winner.

The result was known as soon as the canidates were finalized: the people lose.

The networks declared a winner months ago. Haven't you been paying attention?

as soon as the polls close, the media will start calling states. what they're mostly trying to avoid this year is calling states before the polls close. we may we have an answer tonight if its not too close. if there's any state that's too close to call though, i think they will hold off until tomorrow morning.

Don't think you'll se any states called for the Presidential race until the polls close in Hawaii.
That's the way it's suposed to work.

I'll believe that when I see it. I betcha the news networks won't refrain from calling states. My guess is we'll know Kerry won before my bedtime (I live on the west coast)

Really? Wouldn't the polls close there around 3 am eastern time or so? It seems like they usually give an answer before that...

Look at it this way, if it's a close race, which i assume it will be either way, we're going to court.

Yeah I can't imagine the networks holding back either. I think there's a good chance it won't be as close as 2000. When do you go to bed? ;) I'm trying to make sure I'm watching tv at the right time. :p

I don't see it. Kerry will win by a decisive margin IMO, obviating any need for litigation.

If we come down to a VERY close, election-decisive outcome in one large swing state, as we did last time, I guess this could go to court. I'd be interested to see whether the same Republicans who mocked Gore for challenging the balloting in FL in 2000 would feel the same way if President Bush is similarly situated this year.

Networks can call states as soon as the polls close. I was reading it on NBC's website...basically they won't call it if its close, but if its a landslide, they'll call it early.

Probably by midnight EST at the latest assuming there aren't problems or we don't have several states that are so close they trigger automatic recounts.

Eh? I could possibly see a decisive electoral victory for either candidate--but every poll out there shows a stastical tie.........you appear to be stricken by a nasty case of wishful thinking.

Hopefully they take their time and get it right...I would rather it take longer and not have any confusion than the snaffu like we had last time.

DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN!!!

wait, what's that?

had to be done. I'm feeling a repeat of 2000 with two or more states being contested in court for weeks.

Remember, Kerry will declare victory regardless of the results. He will begin to announce the cabinet in the a.m. and attorneys will begin to file suits that have already been prepared.

We won't know for months.
